You & The Explosion Band ‎– Lupin The 3rd (Original Soundtrack)

Figured this was appropriate since I think Spencer had a few of these on the Transmission site from his recent Japan trip.

Lupin The Third ルパン三世 is a classic Japanese manga and anime series that follows the escapades of master thief Lupin III.

The soundtracks after the first season ~1978 and feature films are done by Yuji Ohno (You & The Explosion Band), there are at least 13 different LPs, I think I have 6 of em. The cover art is usually pretty great too.

They are all pretty funky, not that hard to find, and are usually moderately priced. On the radar of a lot of DJs, but I don't see much talk of them outside of that.

Lupin The 3rd - Zantetsuken

the drum breaks on this one are crazy and it has a good flute and guitar hook.

Sphynx - reminds me of a funked out slow jam of a Frizzi Beyond track.

Wild Crisis - disco funk

My Japanese copy seen below is on Columbia Records Japan. Not sure of the one in the YouTube video.

This sounds very anime. Maybe it's the cowboy Bebop Effect but jazz/funk soundtracks like this are so very "japanese animation" for me. It's nice !

I know it's CD only but this expanded 2CD soundtrack by Yuji Ohno comes highly recommended for a very similar listen in a very similar style.
