Deep Cut Record 4 - Didn't You Hear by Mort Garson
Custom Fidelity CFS 2379 - 1970

The first completely electronically scored motion picture.

One of my favorite psych records is the Lucifer Black Mass LP. After digging further into the mystery of Lucifer, I found out it was created by Mort Garson and have been trying to track everything down he has done.

The crazy thing is he doesn't release the records under his own name, so that's part of the fun. And sometimes there is no mention of him on the record.

You might already know of him, but he tends to go crazy with a moog, and is one of the first to use it on recordings.

One of the tracks that I have linked below is Bamboo City. I was never much of a drum N bass fan but the beat in this reminds of something from that scene and the overall experimentation of noise is bonkers.

Dream Sequence 1 is the other track below that is a stand out, it lives up to its name and is an "epic journey" but only 1 minute 30 long.

this guys has all of the tracks online separately, so check them out (except the 2 title tracks have vocals).

If you like experimental/ synth music check out these other non soundtracks by Mort:
Ataraxia - the unexplained
Lucifer Black Mass
The Sensuous Lovers by Z

next, I'll nominate Bansel

Man, this is an interesting one. I've had Lucifer Black Mass for a while and it's easily one of the most bizarre recordings I've heard. The liner notes that accompany each track make for a truly unique piece of work. That said, I never ventured out to seek out more from Mort Garson, so I'm glad you did the legwork ☺.

This sounds similar to Black Mass and makes me question his sanity even more. I really need to see this movie to see how it translates to the scenes. I'd have to assume the movie is fairly abstract right?

wow, this is right up my alley and exactly why I wanted to start Deep Cuts. this was totally off my radar before today (though I was familiar with his Electronic Hair Pieces from a year or two before). thanks for the tip and the clips!

I also don't know anything about the movie, but it seems to have Gary Busey in it. I have to track this down...

This is flippin' fantastic and definitely in my wheelhouse!!

It's quite mental isn't it? Got a Tom Dissevelt/Jean Jaques Perrey vibe......but motored by a demented Silver Apples groove. Would love to hear it in context of the film!

(Runs off to find rekkid and film immediately...)

DCR4 = 100% Disco-banger! Thanking you @monsterworship!

@disco... OK I'll bite, and especially for anyone quoting Ferris Bueller...

Although quite out there I think this is the most interesting Deep Cut discovery yet... was ignorant about this guy until now, but there is certainly something fresh sounding about these samples, and there is an interesting if brief documentary on YouTube.

This is surely the sort of thing that is ripe for a label like Finders Keepers to jump on for a re-issue, especially as these releases only seem to have come out late 60s or 70's and not been in circulation since? Just an idea.

Great post monster worship. I have Mort garson's Music for Sensuous Lovers LP.

I'm a big fan of this early moog/modular synth stuff. Not heard of this album though, so thanks for putting it up here. I dont have, nor have heard, black mass either, alhough I have known of it for a long time.

If people dig this stuff there is a lot of it out there, though maybe not ost related, a few names.
Beaver and krause, dick hyman, ruth white, tom disselvelt and kid baltan, Fred weinberg.

Apologies for not contributing have been very busy at work and applying for a promotion.
Loving this tune from didn't you here.
