Nope. It's definitely that goddam LP. Great pickup, Pete. Been on my wantlist for ages, but I'm not willing to pay crazy prices for something I hope to find one day in the wild for far less. Top ten exotica album for me.
Oh no, it wasn’t my intention to post this and make anyone jealous, please excuse my naïveté in the realm of Exotica.
Perish the thought, my friend. I'm genuinely...happy...for you.

This cover art is ugly compared to the original one.

Sweeeet, Bez!
I have the newer reissue coming from Russia, so who knows when it’ll get here (but shipping was cheap!). I can’t wait to spin it. I’ve only heard a few tracks from it.

Were these shagging records back in the day, or are the boob covers just smart marketing by the labels.

A couple nice tunes here. Some are just absolutely ruined by horrible bird or monkey sounds though. Just....why. it'll be some chill as hell tune, and then "EEEE!! EEEEE!!!!" And a few others are very stereotypical asian motifs.

Yeah I’ll be honest: Martin Denny’s use of sound effects make me less than a fan of his stuff. I like some of the songs, but overall I much prefer Les Baxter’s stuff.

Yeah, it's all part of the ride. Denny is my least favorite of the Holy ztrinity, but he's still got some gold in there.

This is how I feel. I probably should have phrased it “less of a fan” instead of “less *than* a fan”.

I still like the Denny stuff but I loooove the Baxter and Esquivel.

Really like this one - think it was the first toe I officially dipped into this pool, picked up a copy for a buck at a car boot fair based on the sleeve, much to the envy of my much more savvy room mate at the time.

Not sure if this album really counts as Exotica but it sure does sound great.

I can’t find any proof to back this up, but I’m 100% positive that Thurl Ravenscroft is singing on Mganga. His voice is so distinctive. I don’t think it could be anyone else.

The Brass and Bamboo is kinda almost more big band than exotica, but it’s a cool crossover.

Everything about Thurl Ravenscroft is distinctive. I still will never forget my reaction the first time I heard his name...nuts incredible. I don’t know that record at all but I like that sleeve a whole lot!

Hard Learned Lessons of Exotica:

These all arrived in the last couple of days. All great records, and I can recommend them all whole-heartedly.
But their cheapness is turning out to be a bit of a curse. I feel like I’m mostly buying from folks who have no experience grading, selling, packing, and shipping vinyl.

At least 2 of these are in VG condition (at best) and sadly Kapu is totally unplayable. Granted, I’m not spending much on these, but it’s starting to add up when you consider that I have to re-purchase half of what’s shown here.
All amazing records, though.
