I just wondered if it was possible to improve the layout / accessibility of this site? Any chance of not repeating the first post on each page, and at least tripling up the number of posts per page?

All the above. I think also rather than have a reply button, a quote button would be better so it doesn't throw the order of threads all out of place. With the newest post always at the end & not in the middle somewhere.

It would be fine also a "chat" for instant messages like cheers and heads-up!

And of course the possibility to edit messages not only within few seconds later!

From what I can remember, the Reply thing was added a day or 2 into the board which is handy but is also a sod to read through as it is - the board's too narrow for nesting, so maybe having in-thread conversations marked with a different colour, or at least have an "in reply to..." thing in a corner of a post?

Ooh - and a General Chat might be nice (or a disaster - they can really bugger a place up sometimes), as I'm fairly sure some of do other stuff other than buy records.

If this gets enough suggestions & comments, I might end up stickying this (as I can't do any of the things!). They can only make a good board better.

A search option is also sorely needed. You can't even search for tags, which is weird, since they can be added to the form posta.

Really should be using phpBB, it's free and is does everything that everyone is asking for.

I have admin privileges here, but I've never worked on Wordpress-based boards before so wouldn't know where to start with regard to actual tinkering. Might have a look into over the festives (losing my job on Friday, so time isn't going to be a problem!) and see what I can do without breaking anything.

I've worked on both phpBB and proBoards before and, despite their stupid sense of capitalisation they're dead easy to work with, customise and generally arse about with. My blog's WP-based (been doing that for 4 years) and the front end for that is a piece of cake to mess about with, although it's quite telling that the messageboard service offered in conjunction with the hosting doesn't touch WP's own with a bargepole

I'm not that fond of sticky threads though (as this one is now), since they appear in the top under "Recent discussion", even though there are no recent discussions in the thread... And the threads WITH the recent dicussions will appear UNDER the sticky thread, so if you just look at the first (sticky) thread, it will appear that there are no recent discussions.

That's because I ballsed it up in the first place - this is now stuck to the top of whatever sub-board it was part of, but not at the top of the "recent discussions" - before, it was stuck on top of everything *adds something else to list*

I have a whole heap of crap to sort through now I'm at home (I have a metric shitpile of legal documents to go through, compare and sign before my redundancy is finalised this Friday which my current employers sent through, followed by another large post on my own site) so I'll try to formulate something tonight, might be tomorrow evening though.

3. Quotes instead of Replies, or Replies clearly marked as such so threads don’t look weird after a bit

4. Full Edit ability for all members, or at least the ability to go back after more than a couple of minutes

5. Search Facility

6. Not having the first post of a thread on each page

7. A chatbox so whoever's knocking about can just casually shoot the shit

8. General Chat & (sorry!) Non-vinyl music boards

Is a chat really necessary? I prefer to keep discussions etc. public on the board so everyone can see it and participate, no matter when you're online.

Dunno - they're something that work well on some boards and lie empty on others. Might not work here as there's no "online" indicator.
Included it low on the list as someone asked for it, so it's for the powers that be to debate & decide.

Yeah I don't see any reason for a private chat. Private messages would do just fine, that would help strike deals between members faster when it comes to buying/selling. I'm not sure how often any of us would privately message each other outside of trades/sales anyways. Whats the point really? This was meant to be kept as an open dialog between the fans and the labels, so we should continue to keep it all out in the open!

The chat option could be good mainly so threads don't get hijacked but either way this forum is pretty darn cool.
