I dig what Casablancas has been doing for the last couple of years - his side projects with The Voidz were both really good. This is the best Strokes album since their debut.

Brazilia. I don’t play this nearly enough.

This was my album of the year from 2020. Every single track is a banger. Has a pretty diverse line up of guests as is common with a Gorillaz album. They were able to link up with Elton John, Peter Hook, Robert Smith, Beck and many others. Definitely give it a listen if you're looking for some new pop music.

Same. That was my first Hancock album as a kid and it led me to so much greatness. Bennie Maupin. Eddie Henderson. Speaking of, have you heard the two Eddie Henderson Headhunters albums? Released under Henderson's name, and only ever on vinyl, they feature the entire six player lineup, Hancock included. Fantastic stuff.

I have not. Sounds like I got some digging to do. Thanks for the heads up Mateo. If they’re anything like this album I’m sure it’s pure 🔥👊

Salvatore Mercatante - The Foundations of Eternal Sin
Castles in Space

I don't see many people on here picking up Castles in Space releases, honestly I wasn't really aware of them until spring last year. Polypores & Correlations have put out albums with them but they are in the same vein as BWR & Spun, UK based synth music. I picked this one up direct from Salvatore and man it's an immense album. I highly recommend any one check it out who are into the this stuff. It's a beautiful album.

DJ Muggs & Al.Divino - Kilogram
Soul Assassins

I've been very excited about this release since it was announced back in the late summer. I've become a big fan of Al.Divino's off kilter rap but pairing that with Muggs seems like a perfect match. I saw some early impressions saying it wasn't good and I was a little worried but the LP finally landed this weekend and it's everything I wanted. Muggs creates some weird, dark and ominious beats here, at times it feels like a carnival show and others like a off brand 70's comic based cartoon. I hope they release the instrumentals for this one. Again as with my previous posts, I give a word of warning, Al.Divino is not for everyone, almost an aquired taste but there is a full rip of this up on youtube for any one feeling adventurous.

John Clarke is, in my opinion, the premier French Horn in jazz in the last fifty or so years. Small pool, but don't let that fool you. This is one of my favorite ECM releases even if it was only one track long, The Kingdom Of Abha. Well worth anyone's time.

I got it from Light in the Attic, but, unfortunately, it's backordered now.

What a lineup. I'm ashamed to say that I don't know this one.

Another underrated ECM gem. This is Collin Walcott's Grazing Dreams from 1977. Walcott is a pioneer of jazz sitar and his playing is truly something special. At this session he is notably joined by a pair of legends in John Abercrombie on guitar and Don Cherry on trumpet and flute. They compliment Walcott perfectly and the result is an engaging, exotic, sublime listen.
