V/A - Scored to Death: Musique d'Horreur

Ordered this back in 2022 as a reward to a Kickstarter by the author of the Scored to Death books. The project is a Scored to Death documentary. The rewards finally started shipping, and I got this yesterday. It's covers of horror soundtrack cuts.

What do you think of it? I like the artists I know on here (about half of them)

It's fun overall -- a little like candy. There weren't any radically different takes on the compositions, but it was fun to listen to the different themes together. I'll say fun but not essential.

Sonic Youth -Sister.

1987- SST Records.
Belatedly, heartily, approve of this spin.

Find this pic very confusing/concerning though - why does the record look like it has been buffered with steel wool!!??

Ryuichi Sakamoto - Playing the Piano 12122020

So thrilled this got repressed. Originally a Japanese RSD exclusive that has been selling for 3-400 on discogs. It's one of my favorite Sakamoto albums of the last decade. It's just a beautiful set of songs played by just him on his piano

@ScoJo-It's just the dust cover that looks like a steel wool buff along with the reflection of the light in the picture it looks really scratched up. The turntable was bought three years ago new, and I moved right after I purchased it; I really can't remember how the cover got scratched up.

I've picked up a few records recently based off your posts including some. KING GIZZARD and the Masana Temples album.

Definitely going to check out these new ones you posted and then probably search on Discogs.

A lot of the dope newer hip hop albums are pressed oversees and makes it expensive. It used to just be Chopped Herring records. But now you got Fxck Rxp, Rap De Winkel, Daupe, Tuff Kong, and I'm forgetting another big one that drops a ton. Wanted some of those Big Ghost LTD records and regret not picking them up before they sold out.

I always consider this and Funcrusher as the 2 albums that really turned me into a hip hop head. I listened to mainstream stuff like Jay Z, DMX, Mobb Deep, but when I started to discover groups like Non Phixion I really began to dig deep into it.

Totally different side of the spectrum, but my Cuban heritage can't say no to this album. One of the greatest albums ever PERIOD.

Glad you're digging some of the stuff. Kikagaku Moyo has been a great discovery for me this year and I've been enjoying the hell out of their stuff as I dig through it.

The hip hop labels are such a pain, I follow most of them and try to pick up the stuff I really like but it's so expensive. I completely stopped buying from DRW because it was hitting $75 for a single 20 minute LP with shipping and conversion. FXCK RXP and CPH Crates are the only ones that still have reasonable pricing, 30 euro lps with 13 euro shipping. Not sure if you use Instagram or not but that is where pretty much all these labels post about their upcoming releases so that's where I follow along. The nice thing about Tuff Kong, which has now been rebranded to RRC Music, is they have distro deals with Get On Down and Fatbeats here in the US so generally you can wait until they hit the shops here unless you want fancy color variants.

I recommend checking out Lukah & Real Bad Man's album that recently hit streaming it's called Temple Needs Water. Village Needs Peace. It's one of my favorite releases of the year, can't wait til they release physical copies of it
