Bohren, for me, is one of the most satisfying listens ever on any format. I only own the Dolores album on vinyl...with Sunset Mission and Black Earth being my top two pieces of vinyl I want to own over all others. If you threw the desert island scenario at me - and I had to keep 5 records, Dolores would be one of them.

For anyone that hasn't heard them before - the best description I ever read about Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore was imagine a nightmare where you run into Miles Davis in the middle of the night down a dark alley way...you aren't sure if he's going to play for you, or kill you. That is the atmosphere of Bohren. The only band to ever pull off doom jazz. They actually perform in total darkness, and the sounds of their mellotron - amazing.

I'm posting this not just to share their amazing music with anyone that might be into this sort of thing, but hoping someone that might have a copy of either Black Earth or Sunset Mission that might want to trade or sell...or if you know of one at a record shop any where, I would LOVE to hear from you! Again, these are the two most sought after records for me. I would forever be in debt to you, as these two records are my holy grail!

I wish a label would jump on these guys and release a full discography box set.

Anyways...enjoy!

I saw them a few years ago at ATP, with no idea what to expect. Absolutely blown away by them, but all I've managed to pick up are a couple of albums on mp3 and a rather nice poster.

Sunset Mission never came out on vinyl, as far as I know. You're gonna have a heck of a time finding on of these:

Thanks, this is great, I'd never heard of them and have had them on my headphones at work all day. Definitely putting them on the list for further investigation.

To my ears they are very lynchian and occupy the same sort of territory as the darker parts of twin peaks or mulholland drive.

You do know there's a (somewhat overpriced) vinyl copy of Black Earth on discogs right?

Yeah, I've seen that - it's been there for quite a while. I'm hoping to find a copy perhaps not so outrageously priced. I may never, but theres no reason to stop looking.

I just acquired a copy of the Hex album on picture disc vinyl from Earth for only $30, which normally goes for around $70 or so on discogs and higher on ebay...so there's always a chance as long as I keep up the search!

First Post for me but hell yes, this band is amazing!

Gore Motel just got repressed and is insanely expensive but can be purchased at in White or Red vinyl over at: epistrophy.de

I am in the same boat as the OP, I did have a 7 inch, but gave it to a friend who loves Bohren even more than myself.

Yeah that is an insane price from Epistrophy for Gore Motel. I wouldn't buy that simply because Gore Motel isn't that interesting of an album. If I'm going to spend that much it would be on Black Earth or Sunset Mission. I'm wondering if that is even an official repress of Gore Motel?

Recently found Heroin & Your Veins which reminds me of earlier Bohren when they had guitar in there, sorta has a surf vibe to it which I dig but not at all similar to Bohren's newer stuff...

@Mateo - I've always seen comparisons to Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones. I've never been a fan, but I can see how people who enjoy Bohren would like Dale Cooper.

You might also enjoy Les Fragments de la Nuit, as well as Swod.

Holy smokes, you lot have just given me a Winter's worth of evening listening! This stuff is right up my alley and I've never heard of any of them. Awesome.

I absolutely love Bohren! Having stumbled upon them by accident, I had never heard anything like this before. Sublime, dark, and definitely mood/mind altering.

So, as to your original post, there is a copy of Black Earth 2xLP available now...for just over $300 on eBay. Also, Gore Motel boxed vinyl for around $330.

Super rare. But that price tag, ouch!

Yes, their music is just brilliant. I am really shocked with all the reissues out there these days - why no one has picked these up. This is music that can be enjoyed by so many different music fans if it is just given a chance.

I actually questioned Hydra Head Records about reissuing Black Earth and Sunset Mission since they released the last full album, Dolores, and the only response I got was "we'll see how Dolores goes." That was in '09, and you can see that nothing ever came of it unfortunately.

Someone like Relapse or Hydra could do a quick reissue of their last three or four albums in 2xlp format just like Relapse did for Zombi, and if they printed only 200-500 copies of each - I'm almost positive it would sell out within a couple of days. Black Earth has over 400 people including it on their wantlist on Discogs alone...come on! I mean hell, I'd drop $200 on a box set for Bohren if it included all their albums, easily.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you just wrote.

They are doing a disservice to the band and their fans for not reissuing their albums. I have no vinyl of Bohren, but it is the most desired addition to my collection. I can't even find Dolores 2xLP, except for one obscure site selling it for something like $118.

Listened front to back both Black Earth and Sunset Mission...I'd buy both on vinyl for sure!

I got that jacked up Dolores Test Press from Ebay a month ago on the cheap! at least the vinyl is in good condition.

@roydamnit - I saw that one! There is another test press up for auction right now for Dolores, if anyone is interested. Not sure if its the same person selling these test pressings...another one ended just a couple of days ago. If it was me, I would take their music in any condition on vinyl.

For those who pick up the vinyl, I'd be curious to hear your opinions on the quality. I've seen one complaint so far out there that it's a bit noisy (the recording, not the music).
