The Centaur And The Phoenix brings the heat. The turnaround is a solid Blue Note session. And you already know my feelings on Flood. Grass Is Greener is a new one on me. Nice haul. Enjoy!

How do they sound, Boys?
[/quote]

It really does sound wonderful. The silent wax allows the dynamics to shine. There's a remarkable clarity to each of the instruments.
Even on a mono recording, it feels like the band is playing right in front of you.

I can't imagine it could possible sound any better.

Well, that's as advertised so good on them. Hopefully they press more next time 'round without raising the price.

For no special reason, here's a photo of the great author Haruki Murakami in front of his collection (that will include a LOT of jazz...)

Love that shelving unti too! Wonder if it's 'Norwegian Wood'? ;-) *

Had a little sound comparison with the US and JP release.
Not too technical, but first off they do sound different.

Surprisingly bass seems a bit more pronounced on the JP
The US sounds more open though but maybe lacking a little In the low mids.
The JP sounds warmer with more pronounced low mids but sounds a little closed in when comparing.
The lead vibes keyboard work sounded more airy on the US.
I think on the whole I enjoyed the JP more as a listen but really not much in it.

Also I think my JP Bob James is in better condition than the US copy.

Interesting comparison, Dollar. I have all of the Bob James releases through Touchdown and have long toyed with the notion of trying out a Japanese pressing or two for comparison's sake.

@mateo I was surprised myself, I honestly expected the opposite. I compared them again and stand by my initial thoughts.
I have a Ron Carter JP Kudos LP 'anything goes' which sound quality wise I had always felt something was off, I don't have a US og to compare though, as it my be just how it was mixed, the leads feel to in front and all the percussive rhythm stuff going on is too quiet, or sounds off imo.

Some of my best jazz LP's are Japanese originals so my mind isn't blown byt the notion. Heck, it's why I was considering it myself. But it is awesome to here that Nautilus can sound even better on wax!

I also just saw Iggy Pop did a collaboration with Dr Lonnie Smith. It's pretty rad Donovan cover, check it out

Hampshire & Foat records are all dope, in my opinion.

And Bennie Maupin is the realness.

Went out looking for jazz stuff today. This one was $8 for a very clean mid 1960s reissue. Doesn't seem like a super common one, and the jazz is great, and I am a sucker for good jazz trombone. I recommend it if you should see a copy!

I missed this when it came out and have been stalking a copy for a bit. Very beautiful sessions and lucky the tape survived all these years.

A new place opened in the neighborhood. Coffee shop and records. Didn't try the coffee. Asked the owner how things were going. "okay, but I can't stand the fucking mask. Fucking thing is hot, but have to wear it until CNN says so"

I start browsing the records. Couple bins of new vinyl. A fair amount of used stuff. Seeing lots of dollar store trash no one wants, every now and then I see one someone would buy eventually.

I pulled out two original Bo Diddley records, his first two. 58 and 59 mono. Records are just totally thrashed, and the jacket seams are fully gone. Buuuut.....the actual front slicks looked pretty good. The guy comes over "nothing on the bottom is priced yet, my son prices the records, he's not here" -- even though this dude has been pricing records at the counter the entire time. I said let me buy em, they're trashed. No dice. Oh well. Those 50s records can surprise you how well they play cleaned up, so I was hoping for five bucks or something and could work on them.

In the end I picked up this Black Talk! A nice jazz groover. The B side tracks are sort of cheesy selections, Aquarius and More Today than Yesterday, but they are still well executed. The A side is pretty darn good. This has always been a pretty affordable record but a good one. This copy is an older pressing and cleaner than my prior copy. If anyone wants a VG+/G+ repress for $9 shipped let me know. Taped edges, name written on cover, ring wear.

The Sidewinder is such a jam

Bought this for five bucks back when that was a thing you could do.

I wish I knew how some of these people source records in 2021, there is so much crap and now everyone thinks it's priceless crap.
