Sonny Rollins is great on the three tracks he plays on. The guy had a first press too with the original cover art, nice cover but super thrashed record.

Yes. I could only go for a short time Friday afternoon and again early Saturday morning but that was plenty to get into some good trouble

This is "Hard Cookin'" but it is really two Art Taylor records, Taylor's Tenors and Taylor's Wailers. Both are killer albums and really hard/expensive to track down. But the cool thing is, these are the same records. They used the same RVG metalwork and just scratched out the old matrix numbers. The 60s vinyl prestige used has some background hiss but otherwise they're the exact same van gelder cuts as the 50s presses. I was able to get this 2LP for less than what Taylor's Wailers OJC goes for.

Sonny from '51 and '53. Cover is crappy compared to the cool orange/red originals from the mid 50s but it is van gelder mono press on the blue trident '64.

This arrived quickly. Didn't realize there was a second LP of bonus tracks. This is pressed on clear vinyl.

Gears is awesome!

Here's another Austin record show grab. W. 50th flat edge original mono pressing of Tenor Madness. The OJC 80s reissues are from master tapes and good, but this 50s press freaking smokes the OJC copy I've had as my play copy until now. Especially the space and presence on the bass which is a surprise. Man it is clean too. Some edge issues and a few small spots of invisible scotch tape.

I think this one is slept on. Worth it for Woofin and Tweetin alone.

Kote ou? - Mushi & Lakansyel
Granit records 2017 reissue
Hauntingly beautiful Haitian melancholic jazz.

Recommend this 1977 King reissue - from mono original tape. This has been in constant rotation, it's so good!!

Miles Workin with weird red cover version. Label is blue with silver trident and RVG stamp in runout.

1956 jazz perfection. Elmo hope is outstanding on piano here. I recommend this version. Was able to score one for $35. It is Van Gelder stamped 60s reissue and sounds great. I'm happy with that since folks are looking to drop $1000 on the electric lights reissue. The one I really want is the UK Esquire press with it's incredible cover art

Speaking of electric lights they just released Mahler symphony 2. It's super affordable only £700. Makes perfect sense to me.

Went on a post covid booster shot dig. Snagged this real nice copy of Satin Doll. I'm sure you all know it but if not go get a copy, it is more Mizell magic!! real ear candy

They also had this plastylite deep groove mono of Walkin' and Talkin'. No cover sadly but it sounds wonderful.

January 1959, it is wonderful trombone driven, swinging, a cool easy vibe. Keeper!

Me either Dollar. I wish they'd repress II properly

I've been spinning this little 7" a lot. Especially side B. Incredible and if you're on the right side of the pond you can get one for two quid. Not sure what this UK press was doing in Texas but no complaints here!

heavy on rotation, surely one of the hottest new jazz releases in 2021. Makaya McCraven has gone his way from the underground to one of the most important jazz labels of our time. well deserved, warmly recommended...

Does he still make these records by sampling and chopping up their sessions. These were like halfway electronic albums on International anthem.

I think so. He got a lot of praise by the intelligentsia for that Heron “remix”? record.

Stopped by one of the local spots, a place that is usually pretty dry. It was today also, but I did spot this little Bethlehem 10". I don't know Stu Williamson but the nice jewel tone jacket caught my eye, and I noticed Stan Levey credited on drums. Turns out this is a great record! Mix of bop and cool jazz from 1955.
