Just picked this up for $10 I assume it's more funk than jazz due to it being early 80s but still grabbed it

Not very versed in Hancock’s 80ties output but that one looks pretty amazing!

That Maiden Voyage is one of my favourites. You should check out Bobby Hutcherson’s version of Maiden Voyage, I might like it better than the original.

Speaking of Herbie Hancock I picked up Paul Jackson’s Black Octopus on Friday. I was really surprised to see it, I’ve been watching this album on EBay for a while now, to my surprise it showed up locally and I didn’t have to pay an arm and a leg for it. I’m pretty sure it’s the 2015 version but I’m still happy to have a copy.

I'm listening to Black Octopus and now I'm mad because I can't get this album on vinyl due to how expensive it is. Great stuff.

I gave that Magic Window's LP a listen this weekend and like I assumed it's full on early 80's funk, lots of vocals but it's good stuff for what it is.

Got blown out on some ebay auctions but managed to snag this beautiful '58 2nd press mono for a reasonable bid

Probably the last of the jazz treasures from that shop. I think they processed it all, though I wonder if the guy is still alive and sold only part of his stuff. He was a big Rollins collector but there are some huge glaring omissions like Saxophone Colossus that he would have had for sure.

This Conception is a comp. Two tracks go with the Dig record - Miles+ Rollins. I also like So What with Gerry Mulligan and Zoot Sims. The early lee konitz is very interesting stuff with miles and backed by max roach. Outstanding copy, really clean original.

Abandoned the last spot and went to the next one on the list. Came away with about a dozen titles. I was most excited for this Kenny Burrell record. Tres Palabras, or "tres talbras" as they misprinted on the front and back, is a lovely mellow bluesy tune with a top notch Hawkins solo. Hawkins plays on four of the seven. Ray Baretto joins him on four, so those tracks kind of share that Midnight Blue vibe. This record was done around the same time, same year of release 63. Montono Blues has a badass bowed bass solo that he scats along with and feeds into a sizzling Hawkins solo. Super nice price too. Recommend this one highly.

The second really cool find, a minty fresh copy of Tough Piano Trio which is the 1960 repress on Jazzland of the 56 Riverside "Kenny Drew Trio"

The riverside has the better cover but would be crazy expensive. Managed to snag this one for about what the BN classics go for -- deal!!! It's a killer piano trio. there are parts where Kenny Drew plays like some kind of jazz Rachmaninoff, mind blowing talent. This 60 press probably uses the same metalwork as the 56.

Jazz rock miles

This copy is pretty crummy, cover is beat up and taped, and the record has a steady crackle playing VG-. Fortunately it's mostly a loud record, and it was cheap. Hopefully I can upgrade some day.

Latin jazz backing Gatos rough warm tone, here clearly channeling pharaohs influence

The band has some high caliber talent like Lonnie Liston Smith , Ron Carter and Lennie white.

Cheap one too

Night cap spin.

Super chilled out groover with hutcherson on marimba instead of vibes. Nice clean keeper copy for a 20 spot too which is sick. Our local shop is in a good place. They are getting good shit in on the regular and pricing it to sell.

I really dig that era of Bobby Hutcherson @tex. San Francisco, Head on and Cirrus are all major wants for me. I haven’t really checked out Linger Lane yet, I should remedy that.

I found this on Amazon of all places. It’s the 2015 reissue but I’m just happy to have a copy. It does come with a second disc with unreleased music from the session. So it was nice to hear some tracks I haven’t heard before.

Nice it’s a great album. I noticed my copy plays a little quiet though. I’m used to listening to this album with headphones on so that probably has something to do with it but the mix seems a little off. I would love an original to compare but for now I’m happy.

Yeah it seems the reissue isn't the best from what I read on discogs but I'll take it for $23 because I can't afford an OG.

Some heat at the Austin record show for sure.

Basra EX $1500
Sonny vol 1 BN mono 1st EX $3500
Dorham at cafe bohemia 1st ex $3600

While those were way out of my league I pulled some good stuff for sure. Best is probably AT's Delight really nice keeper copy. They also had Whistle Stop but it was pretty scruffy disc.

Scruffy relaxin with surface marks and taped edges. But it was super cheap, it sounds really damn good and is a 1st press mono. Been wanting an original for a long time.

So many killer records I couldn't afford!!

Afrodesia - afro soul
Mode for Joe 1st EX
Moanin 1st EX
Herbie dimensions mono 1st EX
Byrd's eye view esquire minty fresh
Saxophone colossus mint
Gabor dreams sealed
Silhouettes sealed
Just killer stuff

I did bag this Walkin'. 2nd press Bergen NJ labels, cover has some discoloration but very solid structurally, no splits or tears or writing. Disc plays like a dream. Big one off the want list.
