Some great spins @texas your on a tare :). I see a couple on my want list, that jimmy smith album being one.

I was pretty pleased to find this today. I’m slowly hunting down any/everything with Bennie Maupin, honestly everything Lee Morgan as well. The store was having an anniversary sale so it was 25% off, today was a good day.

Nice snag!! Higgins and workman, has to be good

Mjt+3. This is a surprisingly good record. It was recommended I not let this copy pass by. I'm glad I needed the advice. This is a museum white label that plays dead quiet with the jacket to match and sample stamps on the back. It's bop but they've kind of got their own vibe. I'm into it.

Also, Bob Cranshaw is on here. This is 1957. Unclear if this is his first credited album appearance, but it might be.

Back to the record fair haul. This '55 Savoy features a pretty young Donald Byrd in his early 20s as one of the five trumpets backed by Hank Jones, Wendell marshall and Kenny clarke

This one looked clean but is pretty noisy. I also pegged the liberty label for mid 60s but was wrong. It is 1970 and this is not a van gelder cut.

I really like Hank Jones's piano riff on Moito Mato Grosso. And there's an interesting plonky bluesy guitar solo played on a classical guitar. It might be Kenny Burrell, not sure. It isn't bossa Nova but it's the one track where gene doesn't just blow the whole band away with his tenor the entire time. Not my favorite album of the lot, but this Moito track makes it worth keeping around.

Ok this one is legit!! The B side especially with three Wayne shorter originals. This is a 67 2nd press stereo, liberty labels but van gelder stamps. Awesome record

Sort of a varied set from garland. Pleasant one with Les spann on guitar and also flute. The Very Thought of You is lovely. I am happy with this 62 deep groove mono, very clean.

Jackie with Donald Byrd and Mal Waldron. Early stuff, originally on an ad lib 10" with a gorgeous cover that is very hard to come by. This is a Jubilee mono LP '59 reissue. Excellent stuff!! Jackie and Mal in 55, definitely worth checking this one out. The original session was recorded by van gelder

Still going through the record fair haul. This Lou record is pretty cracking. These guys gelled well together. Baby face handles the walking bass lines with his left hand while cooking with his right, but you don't find yourself wishing they had included a bassist. Grant throws down the right rhythm groove and keeps things chill in his solos. And Lou has great solos too. This was a great score -- NY USA labels, mono, laminated cover. No deep groove so it's not first press '61, but the lam sleeve suggests it was probably an early reissue circa '62.

Sort of an eastern tinged jazz with pop influence. This is live no overdubs and has a jammy feel.

Two dozen people already there in chairs ready to camp overnight at the record shop for whatever comes out tomorrow. I went in and walked out with this 1953 mono blue note 10" in solid VG+ shape all around. Has some originals like Afro Paris

Heavy organ funk from '72 with killer break beat JBs influenced drums + congas and an electric guitar and tracks like "They Trying to Get Me" clearly taking a nod from Maggot Brain. Also it's a rudy van gelder session.

This was totally off my radar until I listened to it on their sample deck.

Check it out!! it's a monster psych funk slow burner. There's also an anti war soul track with vocals on the B side that's a riff on What's Going On.

Very tasty!

I have the follow up album 'Superfunk' which was produced/arranged by Axelrod - you can imagine how much of une banger that one is!

Real gone did a nice job. It sounds better than I expected. Not perfect but plenty good enough for the price. Killer album more straight ahead on the A side and funkier on the flip

I stumbled across this posted yesterday. A label out of Russia doing some reissues. I'm not well versed in Jazz but found the samples to pretty great
https://sovietgrail.bandcamp.com/album/ornament-lp

Might be something you guys like. Or you already know about it and I just look like an idiot lol

I'm listening to that Gabor Szabo album you posted @tex and man this is good.

Sounds pretty cool never heard of these guys

Currently spinning Mobleys Message, recorded 65 years ago 7-20-1956

Released again in '65 as 52nd St Theme, but it still has RVG metalwork and is a fraction of the price, Mobleys message is really expensive

Solo piano. Costa was the house pianist for Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. His classical pop influenced sound is instantly recognizable. He sounds like he must have been a pretty wonderful person. A biography mentions he had perfect pitch and the talent to propel a successful career as a recording artist. But devotion to family and home kept him grounded in Pennsylvania and ultimately brought him to Neighborhood.

A friend who knows much more about jazz than I do told me I should definitely get this copy. He was right. I don't know the horn players - Kamuca, Rosolino, Candoli. 1956 hard bop!

Local shop put out a jazz buy. I was there when they put the boxes out, they turned out to be all first pressings in pretty great shape on the whole. And whoever sold this had impeccable taste. Can't wait to get the needle dropped on these.

Excited to see what you picked up.

I grabbed the new Go reissue that dropped today as I was walking by my local shop to get coffee I saw it on the shelf and figured why not for $25
