Two VERY different jazz albums - but great in their own way.

Very different, lol. I've never heard Agharta before but I've listened to Midnight Blue a lot. Agharta is fantastic, this is exactly what I've been craving lately. I looked up my pressing, looks like I actually paid just under the current selling price on discogs so I'm pretty happy about that. It's just more expensive than I had anticipated.

Egypt Strut by Sarah Ragab this it the RSD reissue from earlier this year. It’s pretty great to hear Jazz from Egypt in the mid 70s.This record keeps finding its way on to my table.

Kamasi Washington - The Epic

So this was very odd for me. I thought I had heard this album, I see the album cover all the time. I was wrong, I have not heard this album or anything from Kamasi at all. I started off by listening to Heaven & Earth on streaming last week and worked through everything he had uploaded on there, EP's, soundtracks and full lengths. I did not listen to this one because I wanted to pick it up on vinyl . It arrived this afternoon and it's all I've been spinning. It's an impressive piece of work. I will be ordering Heaven & Earth next.

Went back to that shop today. They were putting this out as I walked in, first press Blue Haze super clean one.

Do you think there's a reason a first press Milestones or Sketches would be especially valuable? This collector had little price stickers inside the jacket opening. They are all over the place, for example Rollins Plus One sticker said 400, and the Miles Vol 1 said 1000. Thelonious Quintets 700. He had his Milestones and Sketches both showing 1000 which seemed unusual. They were both mono but didn't see what was so special about em.

The shop had milestones for 55 and sketches for 65. I could get 20% off. I left them both though but keep wondering why that presumably dead guy felt they were very special.

I spun these two over the weekend. My wife did not enjoy how crazy Agharta was but I loved the album.
The Sorcerer was more her style.

Nice! I saw another Gabor today, 'more sorcerer' or something like that. I think they wanted $35 for it but I was already buying (way) too much.

I did snag this '58 original. No ®, no Inc, 9M, cover is a sharp cornered VG+ with no stamps or writing, disc a strong VG.

I have a '59 2nd press mono to sell now. VG disc, good VG cover slight wear and a little chipping, msg if interested.

Also brought home Billie Holiday All Or Nothing At All with this gorgeous cover. My favorite Billie record and very happy to replace a waxtime with this deep groove mono. Ben Webster on tenor sax.

Nice, that's a real favorite and I dig the original price stickers!

I got Milestones after all. 1E/1D matrix so not first stampers but it sounds really good

Lively album, nice hard bop stuff. This '73 black B pressing recommended, it has Van Gelder stamps and sounds great and is also inexpensive

I have friends and strangers, which isn't as good from what I remember, in fact I need to give it another listen. I do remember I was happy with it after finding in a dollar bin rack.

I’ve seen Fever to buy locally the cover just looks so cheesy though. I still might pick it up, but what I really want is Pressure Sensitive. I was wondering if someone around here was going to post about it before i eventually find a copy. :)

A local Record store put this up on Instagram this morning. I pretty much dropped everything I was doing to run to the store and grab it. It’s a first pressing and sounds great. Does anybody have Harlem Bush Music: Taifa? How does it compare?

Miles, Jackie McLean, Sonny Rollins and Art Blakey in '51

Found it today. First press '56 prestige before they changed the cover to blue.

Cannonball gets going in a couple of the tracks with some blistering lines reminiscent of his stuff on Somethin Else. Another pickup from today.
