A local store opened a new location today so I went to check out what they put out. Pretty underwhelming, they really need to buy some decent collections to replace crap like the huge bin of manhattan transfer albums.

They did put out a sealed copy of Waitaminute which is a '73 jazz funk by German session players. Plus art farmer and sabu Martinez on congas.

If you like library jazzfunk sound then check this one out.

3 sounds stuff isn't my go-to but this is sufficiently swinging especially tracks like "Blue N Boogie"

I don't see many plastylite pressings in Texas and even fewer in this condition. Probably the cleanest original blue note jacket in my collection, not a spot of wear not even on the back, sharp corners, edges perfect, no writing, why can't they all be this clean! Not supposed to be buying anything but couldn't leave this one in the bins especially since everything else in that shop is in bad condition.

Did a little digging today and snagged a few things. First up is Les Baxter, decent stereo copy of African jazz with passable front panel art but busted seams

I hate whatever groove chemical bullshit this shop wipes on their discs. It makes them look good visually, but they always sound like shit and need a cleaning and several playthroughs to get them back playing right.

Highly recommended! 1988 Woody Shaw on Muse. Straight ahead standards with some added flavor but not too much. Van gelder studio. Glad I picked this up it doesn't sound like an 80s jazz record at all.

A few guys in the area put on a backyard record store day. Snagged this '66 stereo of Dippin' excellent Hank Mobley with Lee Morgan, Harold Mabern Jr, Larry Ridley and Billy Higgins. Love the typography on the cover.

Jumping back on the tone poet train, have skipped too many of these. This session is excellent. Maybe they shelved it because it just doesn't really tread on new ground, but I'm in on anything with this caliber of lineup especially with ray baretto to season the sound

Blue note throwing me for a loop with the new Donald byrd repress. A black spine, and the nice Francis wolff pics are on a loose 12" insert with the disc.

Snagged a couple of jazz records from the local coffee shop. Probably paid a little too much but I try to support the neighborhood spot in the burbs, and they’re both clean.

First is Dom Um Romao’s Hotmosphere. Seems appropriate for today with 100 degree temps and a record dewpoint of 80- blistering swampy air. Featuring Sivuca and a talented band this has an array of Brazilian influenced sound with killer drumming and percussion. The Pablo label has some solid albums and this is up there with the best I’ve heard from it.

Was out running errands and stopped by another neighborhood shop in the burbs. Surprisingly they had this Coleman Hawkins OG prestige with EX condition vinyl still in the original wax paper inner sleeve. Just one small sticker on the spine and some light wear to the lamination. Plays like a dream. Coleman and Kenny Burrell having a soulful conversation. Nice one

Got to spend a few hours today driving around town going to different spots with records. I snagged a few things, all jazz. First on the deck is this real classic, Clifford Brown, Max Roach and a young Harold Land from ‘55 on the EmArcy label. It’s a fine hard bop slab recorded in NYC with a couple of tracks that became standards.

Also picked up this Horace Silver plastylite pressing. Maybe not my favorite silver quintet with blue Mitchell & junior cool on the horns, but Roy brooks plays drums. All five tracks are silver originals.
