Stove God Cook$ - Reasonable Drought

Here we have an album that caught me off guard, I wasn't sure what to expect I had never heard of Stove God and when I sat down and hit play on the album I was blown away. He has so much charisma, you can feel his personality bleeding through this album. At times he reminds me of late 90's era Mos Def but not in a way where he feels like he's ripping him off. It's my favorite hip hop release of the year and could very well be one of my favorite albums of the year. Roc Marci kills the production on it too.

Roc Marciano - The Pimpire Strikes Back

I loved Marci's first album, Marcberg, it was a return to the NYC rap I grew up loving. It felt fresh in 2010 and to this day still one of the best from that year. His follow up Reloaded came out in 2012 which I thought was great but didn't reach the level of Marcberg, the following year he released two albums Marci Beucamp and this one. Neither of them clicked with me and I honestly stopped paying attention to him. I reconnected with his album from 2018 and I've been revisiting his work. To my surprise this album is actually great, not sure what my issue with it was at the time but I was wrong. While it's not his best work it still is a great album and I'm really I happy I decided to give it another go. Also I managed to pick this up on Amazon for $14, it's a double LP. Baffling it's that cheap.

Conway the Machine - Look What I Became
I was pretty happy to stumble across a copy of this at retail on hhv.de, this is tough to come by in the US for less $70. I had never ordered from hhv.de, they ship to the US with Fedex and it's about $15 which isn't terrible for international shipping. I will count myself luck though, check out the packaging shot below, it's a tab top that slots in, the thing is they never taped it. The package could have easily opened up from being toss around. The cardboard is super flimsy too, the whole thing definitely as crushed a little in transit, I have creases on the jacket in multiple places.

Apollo Brown & Che' Noir - As God Intended

Che' delivers some incredible storytelling over top of beautiful production from Apollo Brown. If you miss the day where rappers would weave intricate stories over jazz & soul infused beats (early to mid 90's rap) then you may want to check this one out.

Zephaniah OHora - Listening to the Music
A stellar sophomore release from Zephaniah. Much more upbeat this time around. If you like good country music, not that shit on the radio but music true to the genre's roots then give this a listen. The pedal steel player in the band is really good. I also found out reading the liner notes that it's one of Neal Casal's last albums he worked on prior to him passing last summer. He produced the whole album, did backing vocals almost every track, played guitar on two tracks. He was a talented musician that's gone way too early.

Al.divino & Futurewave - Kataklizm
I didn't order this record when it was put up for sale, I was new to Al.divino and wasn't sure what this would sound like. I do really like Futurewave as a producer though. I found a digital copy, listened to it and loved it. Went to buy a copy and they were sold out. It was a pretty small run. Well copies finally started landing over the last month and the resale market has been $90-$150 on most of them, way too much for me. I saw some guy on discogs post this one and two of the rarer varients. This one he was asking $90 for, I made him a low ball offer, he messaged me asking if I would do $10 more than I offered. I was at dinner and didn't see the email, 2 hours later he accepted my offer and said he only took it because he really need cash fast. So I got a great deal on it and I'm very happy to have it in the collection.

Al.divino is a rapper from Boston who has kind of an odd style, he's agressive and doesn't always stay on beat or even follow the beat. Futurewave is a producer out of Toronto who's been putting out increasingly impressive stuff over the last year or two with Rome Streetz, Daniel Son, Mooch & Asun Eastwood.

LP looks solid green in regular light but if lights shining through it, it looks kind of smokey.
