Guess I'll put this here.

So it looks like with this last batch of Ghibli vinyl releases they are done (so no GOTF?).

More info at this link, plus what looks like a really interesting interview with the team that produced them all, I'm just about to read it.

If we got anything other Miyazaki films in these releases I would have said you could hold out for GotF. But aside from The Tale of Princess Kaguya it was all Miyazaki. They could easily release The Cat Returns, Pom Poko, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Arietty, Earthsea or Only Yesterday and people would buy them up but this definitely seemed like a strictly focused release plan.

Grave of the Fireflies is an odd one as Ghibli doesn't own the film, they only animated it, another company has always held the rights to that one to my knowledge.

I also notice every time I look up Ghibli filmography my brain lies to me over and over again because for some reason I can only remember US homevideo release dates for films instead actual theatrical release dates for them.

I did not know that Akiko Yano did the music for Yamadas. I know what I'm doing this afternoon :)

Seeing lots of people online getting their Kimagure Orange Road represses is making me super jealous. Mine have been sitting in "transit" for like a week with no movement.

@revolver, mine arrived a week or so ago. I've been meaning to post in here but life has been busy. Had a quick listen and they sound good. I need to give it a proper listen, I think they may have messed with the mastering a bit, I cant do a direct comparison Though., There may be some compression and possibly some noise reduction, maybe? But it's all very subtle. The artwork and packaging is amazing! Beautiful colour and definition on the printwork, and lovely grade paper/card.

Nice. Can't wait! I never would have been able to afford them at their discogs prices. But at 250 shipped for the main 5, I'm happy with that.

Unico, soundtrack Drama by Iruka and Masahiko Sato

This seems to be the audio from the film stuck to vinyl, not sure if parts of the music are isolated or not. There is lots of dialogue. The music is really nice though, orchestral, very ethereal in places, very chill.

Similar to Columbia's Digital trip synthesizer fantasy series Animage had the shorter lived Hi > Tech series.

Not exclusively synth but definitely very electro influenced there are some real gems hidden in these records. Odd that, what I think is, the first release in the series is the only one to spell 'series' correctly :)

Some clips.

Joe Hisaishi, Venus Wars Image album.

I think I prefer this to the OST. Wondering if this and the Venus Wars OST were the last non Ghibli anime work Hisaishi did?

@dollar that OG dragon ball hit seems expensive :D
anyway i really don't understand why they didn't repress also the BGM one, so weird.

speaking about joe hisaishi i don't know if the one you have is the last pre-ghibli honestly.
my j-knowledge stops at 86's.
btw, this is an incredible 45'' series by joe hisaishi from 1978.
100% BGM, a lot of funk and grooves. highly recommended, im in love with it.

i've no idea @ink, the name of the series is "Columbia Effect Music Library" with catalogue number GH-.

joe hisaishi's works are from GH-41 to Gh-50, volumes 1-10. it's really important to remember these numbers because there are too many japanese library from columbia ONLY sound effects. but the hisaishi's are 100% groovy oriented.

@elifunk Thanks so much for the recommendation. I've seen these listed frequently but wasn't sure if they were any good. Will try pick one or two up cheap of I can.

I managed to get the dragon ball at a good price, and the condition is stunning

@ink @matt
just as reminder, this is the joe hisaishi library collection by moods:

vol 1) seasonal poems
vol 2) leisure and activities
vol 3) nature and landscape
vol 4) the world of atmosphere
vol 5) love and youth
vol 6) appearance of characters
vol 7) actions and expressions
vol 8) fairy tale world
vol 9) unknown world
vol 10) glittering rhythm (the best one)

i've ripped in WAV volume 1 'seasonal poems' so you can get an idea:

with patience they will come out at affordable prices! nowadays very few collectors know them.

for Europeans like me it will be dramatic from now on to make single purchases.
unfortunately, europe will enter a strict regime on the import of goods from july 1st.
we will have to pay customs taxes on any imported product, plus commission costs.
no more shipping declaring gift and low value.
i will drastically reduce the number of purchases from japan for this reason, because i would lose thousands of euros ahah.

!! Really, no gift declaration, that sucks! The UK leaving EU is a nightmare but I don't know of any new law like this. Here in the UK it seems everything gets checked by customs but still there is something like a £15 threshold and if gifted nothing to pay.

@elifunk

Look what happened after the last time you shared LP rips on here 😜😁😅
Still have a few more in transit.

The EU fuckery is already in place - I recently 'helped' out a pal from a small German label that does Japanese music (I don't think Chris is a member here but I may be having a brain fart!?)
He wanted to order 50x 7" lathe cuts from my new UK supplier but they were quoting quite high shipping rate direct to Germany. 'No problem!' says me - have them shipped to me with some outstanding records I ordered from the same company (ie no extra cost to him) and I'll forward to him via my trusty courier
whom Ive never had a prob with - wherever Im shipping to I always include commercial invoice stating Promotional Items/No Commercial Value, and as far as I know there has never been any questions asked, regardless of the destination Im shipping.
Well, not this time - the parcel of 7"s got halted at German customs and they RANG him to ask what was inside/their purpose. He stuck to our story of them being freebies, but a few days later they contacted him saying they had opened parcel, googled the record, found them for sale on his website.. and presenting him with 125 Euro bill while they held the parcel to ransom.
Yikes!! :(
