The EU fuckery is already in place - I recently 'helped' out a pal from a small German label that does Japanese music (I don't think Chris is a member here but I may be having a brain fart!?)
He wanted to order 50x 7" lathe cuts from my new UK supplier but they were quoting quite high shipping rate direct to Germany. 'No problem!' says me - have them shipped to me with some outstanding records I ordered from the same company (ie no extra cost to him) and I'll forward to him via my trusty courier
whom Ive never had a prob with - wherever Im shipping to I always include commercial invoice stating Promotional Items/No Commercial Value, and as far as I know there has never been any questions asked, regardless of the destination Im shipping.
Well, not this time - the parcel of 7"s got halted at German customs and they RANG him to ask what was inside/their purpose. He stuck to our story of them being freebies, but a few days later they contacted him saying they had opened parcel, googled the record, found them for sale on his website.. and presenting him with 125 Euro bill while they held the parcel to ransom.
Yikes!! :(

@Inksb @elifunk I'll be 4 short of a full set when the latest batch arrive.

It's a bit of a bad habit trying be completist with a label or series as it's often a world of diminishing returns, purchasing records at a price that are really not very good sometimes. But, having said that the digital trip series is pretty consistent and I've not really had that feeling, there are many hidden gems amongst all of the tracks over those 53 LP's. I keep finding songs I hadn't noticed before that are really great.
On the whole I have to say the later titles in the series, and often the ones for lesser known IPs, or image albums, are the hidden stars of the show.

To chime in on the new VAT/customs laws in the EU. For me in the Netherlands it should mean I pay less in the end mainly because the fixed customs cost drops from 15 euro to 4 - 7 euro. And tax was already calculated every time the value was above 22 euro.
If the value on a package from the UK states 50 pounds, that should mean I would pay 21% tax on 50 pounds (= at the moment around 60 euro) = 12,6 euro + 4 euro = 16,6. That I can easily live with.

Kenya boy has one amazing proto techno track, the rest of the album is good but not at the same level. There is some really interesting synth bass going on across the whole lp. Interesting Trivia, the album has Akira Ishikawa credited for African percussion. Ishhikawa had a long held passion and interest with Africa and subsequently moved to Kenya to live, sometime in the 80s maybe? and spent the rest of his life their.

My calculations are for the EU because the new customs rule is for the whole EU and started 1 July. I have no idea if there are new rules regarding shipping to the UK.

I think it is essentially the same but obviously we are now out of the EU so no customs free trade within the EU.kind of Like a mini Europe but outside of Europe and made of 1 country, for the time being. God help ourselves🤦😅

Haha. Yes, it is a strange world we are living in at the moment.
I think UK has it the worst. I assume you have to pay customs for stuff from everywhere except the UK, or not?
Stuff from Japan will never be cheap but I don’t think with these new rules it will get more expensive. Probably the same.
I have been buying more and more from within the EU. Shipping costs for 5 records from Italy is less than shipping 1 record from the US. And no customs.

Although I am thinking now that the reason of having bought less from the US is because the last 12 months there appear to have been very few new releases to get. The pandemic has caused a massive delay in new vinyl output.

@bez, yes I think so. If it means customs handling fees become lower and I don't pay VAT twice I'm ok with it.
It doesn't surprise me this thing with discogs though, I imagine 99% of sellers drop the price on the parcel for customs at the request of buyers. I think I've only ever had one seller ever insist on writing the true cost of items via discogs 😂

Hengen Taima Yakou Karura Mau! OST - Makoto Mitsui

Obscure little Horror OVA from the late 80's. It's not subbed to my knowledge. The premise is two highschool girls fighting supernatural demons. I think one girl is able to sense where they are, the other can attack them. I've not watched all of it but it definitely has some cool visuals, would love to see it subbed.
The ost is a mixed bag but definitely has some great tracks, 7 and 10 current faves.

Hey elifunk, yes I've had it a while it's quite different from Hiromasa's earlier stuff but still jazzy. Very much smooth jazz in style.

I nearly bid on that copy as it had the bonus B2 poster, which I'm missing, but not spending that much for that poster 😂.

Top collector tip, You can often get these bonus posters seperately very cheap if you are chasing them.

I finally picked up a copy of this after a long wait for one at the right price. Takeo Yamashita made some great music and seems to get less attention than other Japanese film/anime composers. I had only heard a little of this bgm before, way way better than I was expecting. Full of weird spooky spaced out free jazz kind of sounds.

@inks Not been spinning all of these but wanted to share some favourites for the genre.

I definitely have been spinning those Osamu records, Horror show works great as a Halloween listen.

Also I recently found out that the og wicked city is different to the TLV release, beyond the omission of the 2 vocal tracks. The instrumental music clocks in 5m shorter on the TLV release and the track lengths are quite different, some longer some shorter. Although I don't think there are any key themes missing from the TLV release, I think it's just repeated phrases dropped maybe?
