@bez, from what I know/presume.

Firstly these are mainly rearrangements of anime/tokusatsu OSTs, or partly original music inspired by anime/tokusatsu, or in the case of a manga all original music.

Also as the name suggests they are made purely using various synth and electronic instrumentation

I think the whole synthesizer thing must have come off of the back of the whole 70's Moog phenomena, and then consequently Tomita's slew of synth rearrangements of classical music, akin to the work of wendy Carlos.

Orchestral/choir rearrangements of anime OSTs had already been done prior to all of these.

I guess there would have been economic benefits releasing all synth albums in contrast to orchestral work etc...

I think they also fitted in nicely with the "otaku" state of mind, predominantly male nerdy collector fan.

Similar to the Tomita/Moog lps you get a detailed list of the composers synth collection used for the LP.

"Digital Trip Synthesizer Fantasy" was a series produced by Columbia records in Japan. But most of the other big anime record labels of the time produced similar series or Individual releases, but none quite prolific as DTSF, there are also similar records that are not purely synth orientated like this series.

@elifunk I don't know if you know more about the series.

about the DIGITAL TRIP, you said everything. music in early 80's was going to the synths. so also anime world music accepted the new sound by experimenting with this colbumia serie.

Thanks @elifunk, I owe you and @inks. That list is beautiful!

Yet another Columbia series!
I think I am missing two from this series.
These are Drama LPs (spoken word) but spoken in English. Each LP came with an A5 read along booklet with the English and corresponding Japanese translation. I presume these were for people to learn English.
Essentially the result sounds like the worst anime dub you have heard, well maybe not worst but still pretty bad. The same American cast are used for all the LPs I think.
Mazinger and Yamato came each as a box set, though containing only one lp, booklet, plus a fold out poster, the others are gatefold minus the poster.
The Yamato album was also released on cassette and came in the same massive box set that the LP came in :D

wow @dollar this is so cool!
first time i see that voltes five in some collection, regards!

yes i think you only miss candy candy and king of the jungle.
you have to find them with OBI to complete your awesome 英語盤 collection ,no doubt!

i've added 'candy candy' on discogs so maybe it will be easier to find:

Thanks @elifunk, I dont know if you noticed but my daughter ripped my Yamato obi :0
I see candy candy and king of the jungle appear every now and then on yahoo Japan but often I've already spent and know I can pick it up later.
But yes! need to complete the series ;D

The toughest one for me to find was "the grand Prix hawk" I've only seen it once on yahoo Japan, when I got it, and also a copy appeared on mandarake. Music wise There is a great funky drum track on the Yamato album, it plays alongside the drama of course, I think DJ Muro used it in a mix/comp

Candy candy and mazinger I think are usually the most expensive to pick up as they are boxes, the Yamato box is everywhere so always goes super cheap.

ahah i suppose your daughter dislikes obi.
i have never approached this series so they are basically all new to me.
i don't like drama records but several times they have the best covers so sometime i break the rule.

however, i'm uploading 47 DIGITAL TRIP rips on mega.nz (24 flac and the other almost all 320 mp3), they will be ready in 8 hours.
not sure if i can share the links here, so maybe it's better via PM.
@dollar i'll send you a message later.

if anyone else is interested, let me know!

I would love a link to all the Digital Trips. And I am not sure if there is a rule about posting links but generally I offer up any links to people and if they want them then I PM the link.

Yes! :) and they have also stated they will do Paprika at some point.

The three princess mononoke albums also get released at the end of the month, (22nd) pre orders are available.
Plus! Tiger lab vinyl have their next sub incoming (maybe August) consisting of box sets and all manner of craziness, as well as a release outside of the sub before. Oh, and Golgo 13 is about to drop if you are outside of the current sub.

Prepare your wallets! ;)

I think so, TLV may have a slightly alternate tracklisting (possibly omitting some vocal tracks, or adding more BGM) I havent seen the official tracklisting. But I'm pretty sure for the most part it is the same.

Yeah that Cowboy Bebop feels like it was announced ages ago. I wonder if they will do EVA too, they said they were looking into it I believe.

I just bought Samurai Champloo from Juno for $35, I assume it's boot but it's so cheap I couldn't pass it up.

Tiger Lab is going to piledrive my bank account into oblivion I think with their next sub. I'm legit scared to see what the price will be. I'm also a little sad to know every release before hand but I understand why they have to do it. They got so much flack from people on the last one and it's going to be a big asking price.

I'm pretty sure TLV also mention on Twitter than they plan on releasing more Satoshi Kon, since Milan teased Parika one would assume it's probably Millenium Actress or maybe Paranoia Agent

I need to pre-order the Mononoke OST still. I forgot to.

@Inks

I'm really hoping for millennium actress, I've not actually seen it but was checking the OST and really digging it, it's by Sumo Hirosawa that did Berserk. I guess I should watch the anime.

I personally would love somebody to release the Golden Boy BGM, I think it could make a great release :D

Millenium Actress is wonderful. I revisited it a few months ago for the first time since it's release to DVD.I forgot how great it was.

is 2lp going to be able to contain it all? i've been listening to it digitally and it seems like there is a lot of music.
edit: it's 5 cds so there must be a lot of extraneous tracks that can be left out, live songs and such.
