Got some new Japanese soundtracks on CD today. One is Yuta Yamashita's score to "Nagi No Umi," and the other is Masaru Yokoyama's score to "AI Houkai" (or "AI Amok"), which is a sci-fi drama. The "Nagi No Umi" score is understated, with drones from string instruments and some electronics -- tense ambient. "AI Houkai" reminds me of the band Raime. Terse percussion runs throughout, with a mix of melancholy and blippy/noisy electronics.
I also got a 2-CD set, "30/55," of Taro Iwashiro's music (he did the soundtrack music for "Memories of Murder"). The first CD is a selection from his soundtrack music, and the second is a collection of his piano compositions. Haven't heard this one yet.
