Akira Ifukube - Space Amoeba
$30

https://mondoshop.com/products/space-am ... e-score-lp

TOHO, the creators of GODZILLA, unleash SPACE AMOEBA aka Gezora-Ganime-Kameba: Kessen! Nankai No Daikaijû! A space probe is lost while on its way to the planet Jupiter but returns to Earth after being overtaken by a deadly and dastardly single-celled organism. The organism then mutates into giant kaiju that mimic a cuttlefish, a stone crab, and a matamata turtle and use these destructive forms in their plan to take over the planet. The only thing that stands between humanity and the insidious invertebrates is a group of photographers doing recon for a tourism company! Directing. of course, is the legendary Ishirō Honda (MOTHRA, RODAN) alongside producer Tomoyuki Tanaka, with the dreamy Akira Kubo (DESTROY ALL MONSTERS) as photographer Kudo. As with GODZILLA, Honda recruited the great Akira Ifukube to compose the thrilling score, and Ifukube brought his trademark innovation and dramatic grandeur. The title theme is beautifully distinctive, mixing thick brass and low piano to match the destruction of the kaiju with higher horns and trumpet, providing a lighter contrast. Ifukube scores action and horror with his iconic lumbering colours but provides suspense with piano and otherworldly strings, with a unique slithering theme for the evil amoeba. Another Ifukube triumph! (Charlie Brigden)

6-8 were previously CD only.

Quintessential peak 80s OVA anime. I think many will be pleased to see this finally getting reissued.
Can be pre ordered for release in June.

@Dollar - I am very interested in these releases but any idea what the amazon.co.jp exclusive "Mega Jacket" version might be? I looked at the preorder option from Amazon Japan directly, and they want over 10k yen shipping for a single LP. Is it some crazy huge custom LP art sleeve?

From what I saw, the variant offered via The Hard Times and Brooklyn Vegan was the most limited, if that's important to you.

I really don't know how I missed the Carpenter score for Firestarter up on Sacred Bones, must have missed the newsletter. Grabbed the solid black, but Mondo just put up an exclusive color way if someone is into that.

I think Mondo put it up too early. Sacred Bones hasn't sent out a newsletter yet. I didn't buy any of it because it's a pre-order for October. Both of those companies have plenty enough money to not use crowdfunding for this type of release.

Haha and just got the newsletter. Guess today was just a random day to check out Sacred Bones.

I do hate the lead times, and in this case hope it's to make sure enough copies are available online and not a crowdfunding situation. I know sometimes it's hard to guage how many are needed and risk selling out.

It's a slippery slope. Mondo releases a vinyl, instant sell out, people demand they print more. Company does preorders, and gets called out for long preorder windows. I do think it's tough to guage now, I could also be totally wrong. Probably doesn't help that there are at least 6 variants, 3 (so far) retailer exclusive.

I get that it can be tough to gauge but it's John Carpenter doing a new score, it's gonna sell like crazy, they can literally just look at their sales history for the last 6 JC albums they released and gauge how much they should press off of that. It's not like a new score from a small artist they are worried about not selling enough of to warrant blindly pressing 3000 copies. I would be fine pre-ordering in say August or Sept for a Oct release, that's a real pre-order. when it's 6 months+ it just feels like a "please give us your money to fund this because we can do that now due to the current climate"

I personally just don't care to give my money to them 6/9/12 months ahead of getting the product I paid for. If it's still available at release date I'll grab it then otherwise I'm just shit out of luck lol.

Eh, i think in this case It's more that the movie is coming out in a few weeks and they are just drumming up promotion. I know a lot of people didn't love the trailer (in some cases for reasons i find mystifyingly subjective but whatever) and for a lot of the community I think "Stephen King + John Carpenter" is enough of THE push to get butts in the seats or streams. it also reminds people that the movie is coming soon, as i don't think its had a very large marketing push outside of the initial trailer and then this.

I also know for me, if i see a movie (or am anticipating one like this) I'm more likely to be in the mood to grab the score then and there, and I don't love not being able to do that. I think the fact that they are releasing the digital on the movies release date is sort of proof of that to me. more of a strike while the iron is hot sort of thing. Sure for Carpenter you probably don't need to, but this is the marketing guys at work for sure. Put the merch up for sale while the movie is coming out, etc.

Same thing with the Northman, short lead time ahead of the movie, longer lead time for the record because of supply chain issues.

Full disclosure, i'm literally wearing an old SB shirt as i type this so i'm admittedly a huge supporter, but just as they don't need the crowd funding they also totally don't need the defense lol. I just think in this case it feels much more like movie marketing than anything else.

Waxbros also doing a 'sclusive colorblob.

I don't know why, but... I have this crazy feeling like I don't have to panic buy this one?? ;)

(I won't have a bad word said about the OG film version btw... except maybe that it's kindof terrrrible by any metric, but also wonderful and mad rewatchable by my own metric. And the score... oh lord, the score... has me on my knees facing east, metaphorically.)

(Just sampled the new End Titles track... it's, umm, fine? Sounds like Halloween? A bit bland if I'm really honest, feels like they may have done this one on auto, and maybe the film isn't >aherm< very creatively inspiring? Who knows!!)

Six month pre orders run the game yo!

Yeah I kind of felt the same way ScoJo, felt very Halloweenish in the beginning and wasn't particularly interesting. Not a bad track but I kind of expected more?

oh yeah i'm sure these will be well available for a long time, just lending my two cents as to the "why sell them now if they aren't ready" question.

I love the original to death, and the score is a TD highlight for sure. You know, its funny about the quality of the original, everyone seems to be on the same page that its not great, and yet everyone talks about it quite frequently, Drew Barrymore still gets "Charlie" jokes, and it remains one of those interesting movies that has left its mark even if its not that great all things considered. Most of these remakes of SK have left me sort of whatever, but i'm kinda into this one. I love the novel and think its one of his best. I would love it if SK adaptations started becoming real period pieces too (and yes while IT part one was, that was because of the modernization of the rest of the story and i still missed the 'Stand by Me' ish vibe of the childhood scenes), like set this in the 70's and i'd be thrilled (i couldn't tell from the trailer how modernized it was, but that title font....love). I'm SUPER excited for the Salems Lot remake coming, but again, would love it as a period piece and thats not likely.

Holy crap, this finally happened?! I recall having the conversation here a while back with RedGoblin, about this music.

The Italian cut of Martin was named Wampyr and replaced the Rubinstein score with Goblin tracks edited from existing LPs, and a couple of original cues by a diff composer. I def want it though!
