@Texas, outstanding spins and very good input on the Alessandronis. Would love some of these as OGs but most of them are just too pricey nowerdays.

@Mateo: I have an OG Erbe and used to have the Sonor version, so can‘t do a direct shootout between the two. But I remember being happy with the sound of the Sonor. The OG sounds excellent, very good separation of the instruments and dynamic sound.

Nice one, Chris! Thank you. I think I can live with that. For now.

I probably did sell those reissues!!

Daydream was one of my favorite additions of the year. I had the reissue but I don't think I ever really actively listened to it properly without distractions etc, so I liked Bike & Obstinacy and the obvious funky drums stuff but did not properly appreciate the rest. It's a brilliant record, tracks like 'Riddle' and 'Hippy Fire' are counterbalances for the heavier clavinet funk.

It was also nice to get a record that has some provenance from a local head in person instead of from a box from italy. That was during the initial two week lockdown when the streets were empty and everything was quiet. In hindsight we didn't have much covid here in town yet, it was far safer than it is now when people are out in droves.

When I pull out a Quadriga record I often wind up playing it several times in a row and leave it on the platter all day. Exciting easy listening big band soul jazz-funk rock

Daydream is one of my all-time favorites. I wish I had an original!

I don’t have any of those Quadriga records at all. I probably should, right?

I love them all equally. Q1 was reissued and some copies are still around. The other two haven't been reissued yet. Highly recommend Q1.

Great jazz funk library. I passed up an affordable VG copy of disco music a while back and really regret it, these usignolo can be frustrating to find.

@Inksb: Nice! Can‘t go wrong with stocking up on Alessandroni. Report back when you have received them on how you like them / which one is your favourite.

Thanks to the recent discussion on Alessandroni here I (re)discovered this gem. It is available to stream on Spotify etc. but when I listened to it for the first time some months ago it didn‘t really click with me. Then gave it another go some days ago and liked it a lot - so much that I treated myself to this great sounding OG. Sentimental, romantic, yes, also dramatic but also hopeful - perfect vibes for closing this crazy year.

Only one I've listened to out of the 5 is Barocco which I didn't love but it was only $8 which I figured was a good price to give it a second chance.

And I enjoy that Romance and Drama LP. I wish I had picked up the reissue when I had the chance.

Barocco is one I never listened to before, I guess it is heavy on the baroque? The whistling and choral ones are mostly very pleasant, and Panoramic!! Curious what you think of the DVD if you watch it.

Molnbär av John wrote: Fri Dec 25, 2020 9:10 pm I'm excited to hear what you all think of the new edition of Alessandro Alessandroni E Il Suo Complesso (SP 110) that's being released on Sonor Music Edition. It wasn't an easy task especially since modern manufacturers doesn't leave you with that many nice options for making the sleeves. We also considered the tip-on sleeve, as the 2005 edition, but decided to stay as close to the original as possible. In other words a standard sleeve, without this nice spine that flattens out on the top and bottom, that many Italian sleeves had around that time.

Instead of making a scan-the-original-and-print solution did I try to rebuild as many parts as possible by sourcing the typography (not 100% correct, but almost) with some minor changes and adjustments like the "Psichedelico" typo on the label (that's also been corrected on the SR SP 110 pressing) plus added new credits and logos (unavoidable unfortunately). Labels are being printed with pantone 877 C silver as the original Sermi releases. The critical part is the colours since the paper on the original sleeve is more yellow (at least on the copies I've seen) and I've used the white of the paper instead, which will be more optical white than off white. I thought it will look better with time doing it like that instead of trying to make that yellowing effect in the print. No printed barcodes on the sleeve at least.

Since you are all enthusiasts, please let me know what you think if you decide to buy it. Would be glad to get some feedback to take with me for forthcoming projects.

Regarding an AA top ten, it's not an easy pick. Besides his lounge masterpieces (mentioned above) am I enjoying his releases on Coloursound a lot (especially Romance and Drama) and Angoscia. One that I listen to a lot is Sensazioni Sonore on Silver by him and Kema: https://www.discogs.com/Alessandro-Ales ... e/11012678. It's really beautiful, especially if you like his world of melodies and soft sounds played by two guitars. It reminds me of Mostra Collettiva, even if the arrangements are completely different.

Happy holidays everyone! I'm John and I've been following this thread off and on for some years and been enjoying it a lot.
John is in the house! :) great to see you here!!

i think the artwork on Alessandronis butterfly is outstanding!

also i second the Sensazioni Sonore recommendation on Silver records. this is the only record, that I have ever bought, in a generic sleeve. got it offered some time ago and i assumed it may be a release without a cover. it was super cheap and and i could not resist as i have never heard of it before and i knew, this one is not going to turn up a second time (at least for me). i was really surprised when this appeared on discogs with cover art. you have a very special and rare record @John! :)

These recent posts are making me realize I have some holes in my AA discography to fill (I mean stuff that’s relatively easy to find).

Somehow I didn’t have Inchiesta or Fischio?
@inksb, I just bought all the same ones from Forced Exposure as you did - apparently I didn’t have any of those. Didn’t realize the I Cantori record wasn’t essentially church choir (I confused it with Tempo Dello Spirito, which is a little too choir-ish for me).

I also grabbed Inchiesta because I have no idea how I missed that one (and there weren’t many ones that were still cheap in the US).

I don't have Inchiesta yet, I should really grab a copy. I'll be annoyed if I pick it up for $60 and they turn around and repress it.

I think Inchiesta was the first sonor I bought, from End of an Ear records back when they were still at their much cooler Oltorf location.

This one has been on my radar forever but never found the right one. Finally was able to snag a cheap clean copy from a US seller. Why this one is $80 and drammatico is $2,800, who knows. This one is more pleasant to listen to! Pieranunzi, Munari, Molino and Cannizzo can definitely groove, and pieranunzi in particular steals every opportunity he gets on this record -- check out 1:43 in to Sax Twin

The standout track for me is "Sax twin" which has a nice chill downtempo jazz funk vibe. "Black california" has the funky riff and drums I originally wanted it for. "Acoustic Samba" and "Mysterious Melody" are also pretty good.

I'm looking to expand some more into the Library world. I'm going to regret this. What are some easy to obtain (probably reissues) library records you guys would recommend. I have the most recent Sonor reissues from the last 6 months or so and most of the Alessandroni reissues over the last year or two.

Can confirm, you will regret this.

Here are some of my favorite library reissues.
These are all fairly easy to get reissues (although I’m seeing that some have become less easy to get in the US since I bought them).

Janko Nilovic:
Rythmes Contemporains
https://www.discogs.com/Janko-Nilovic-R ... e/12450401

Pop Impressions
https://www.discogs.com/Janko-Nilovic-P ... se/6167831

Psych Impressions
https://www.discogs.com/Janko-Nilovic-P ... se/3297192

Soul Impressions
https://www.discogs.com/Janko-Nilovic-S ... se/6910723

KPM:
(Really, almost every KPM reissue they’ve done is amazing, but these would be my top 5.)

Afro-Rock
https://www.discogs.com/Alan-Parker-Joh ... e/13524370

Jazzrock
https://www.discogs.com/John-Cameron-Ja ... e/13524387

Piano Viberations
https://www.discogs.com/Francis-Coppiet ... e/12577807

The Big Beat
https://www.discogs.com/Keith-Mansfield ... se/5988639

The Big Beat Volume 2
https://www.discogs.com/Alan-Moorhouse- ... se/1119814

Other random ones I love:

Freedom Power
https://www.discogs.com/Various-Freedom ... e/14937138

Feelings (I would just order the new one that’s coming from Be With - all of their KPM reissues sound amazing)

Daydream
https://www.discogs.com/Orchestra-Comet ... se/8209478

Music For Movement
https://www.discogs.com/Angelo-Baroncin ... e/10337303

Stati D’Animo Vol 2
https://www.discogs.com/Various-Stati-D ... se/9462103

Superground
https://www.discogs.com/Sandro-Brugnoli ... e/14078073

UST 86 - Ballabili Anni '70
https://www.discogs.com/A-Arienti-A-Bal ... se/8419904

I feel like I’ve already put enough here, but that’s why this is so dangerous: I could easily list 30 more.

All of these are reissues so they shouldn’t be tooooo hard to get.
One lesson I learned the hard way: these are usually pretty small pressings and it seems like once the ones in the States are gone, it starts to get pretty expensive to get one. This is partially what led me to sadly spend so much so quickly - I’d see there were only 1 or 2 copies at a decent price in the US and I’d panic and buy them, leading me to buy a ton in a single fateful night of Discogs digging.
But looking some of these records up to send you, I’m glad I did: records I spent $25 on a year ago are now scarce or non-existent in the US, and you’re looking at $50-$75 now.

(In fact, I’m panicking about a couple of records I think I overlooked last year because they seemed like they were plentiful and now they’re getting hard to find!)
