i managed to grab this OG String Beat - but it sounds…not great?
The vinyl looks NM, so it’s not a condition thing (I don’t think?), but it’s suuuuuper quiet, pretty noisy, and it seems like side 2 is like 4-5 db quieter than side 1??

Anyone have any experience with this or the two reissues that came out? (This is an original blue label version.)

Amazing music, but it just sounds a little underwhelming for some reason.

That was announced on an obi strip a long time ago, and I was wondering when they’d get around to putting it out!

Thanks everyone. Had a good time and took two days off this week which is a rarity for myself as I generally work 6 days a week.

These beauties arrived over the weekend from Rappcats. They sound fantastic. On my initial listens I think I prefer Vacanze but both are really good. I am a little curious why Sonor decided to have two very different jackets for these. Nel Mondo is the very heavy stock high gloss print that we saw on most of the Alessandroni reissues, Vacanze is matte finish on very very thin stock, the kind that bubbles open when there's no record in it. Feels super cheap.

Sonor really made a good job with the sound on these two releases and quality pressing too. The reason why they come with different jackets is simply due to aesthetic/tactile reasons trying to get as close to the original release as possible since Nel Mondo Del Lavoro originally was released in a thick tip-on sleeve, while Vacanze came in standard (thin) sleeve. If they ever decide to re-release L'Italia Vista Dal Cielo on Sermi it would be a challenge to try to find a match to that textured super thin paper quality of the sleeve.

Thanks for the info. It makes sense and I respect the desire to be as accurate as possible. The records sound very good. I've been spinning them a lot.

Paolo Ormi E La Sua Orchestra - P.O.X. Sound

New release from Sonor

US:
https://rappcats.com/products/paolo-orm ... 4857909422

EU:
https://sonormusiceditions.bandcamp.com ... -o-x-sound
Maestro Paolo Ormi was a great arranger and orchestra director for the Italian television of the 1970s/80s that strictly worked with many important international artists and that's largely remembered for being the personal Raffaella Carra and Rita Pavone's arranger and conductor for a large part of his career. Beyond his contribution and work for the Italian famed singers, he delighted himself in producing some gorgeous Latin Funk albums, often covering and re-arranging Latin music classics.

Sonor team was able to rescue from oblivion the lost tapes of this incredible recording, that were originally conceived in 1972 at RCA studios in Rome, and until now never officially released on any commercial/physical format. A promo Stereo-8 was only issued at the time on a ridiculous run, and only distributed for non-commercial purposes among the TV circuits. The album is a really special Latin-Funk banger that anticipates "P.O.X. SOUND vol.2" LP, issued in 1973, and clearly shows Maestro Ormi's strong Latin-influenced take on music with tones of groovy Latin Jazz, exciting breaks and hot Latin Funk groovers. Fabulous album from start to finish!

hey all, hope everyone is well. I’ve been insanely busy with work and traveling (mostly for work). My “to be listened to” pile has become ridiculous, so my record buying has slowed down a little, though I’ve been keeping up on reissues etc.

Here’s a chunk of library I’ve gotten over the past month or so. This picture is actually about over a month old, and I still haven’t had a chance to listen to any of these!

thanks @million!

I’ve gotten another few batches of records since then, including this lot of records that I found at Amoeba in LA (of all places) and all of these records were like $5 or less each:

I mostly blind bought all of these and I’ll be damned if some of them aren’t really great.
