Its really something else, that movie is so ahead of its time too. One of my favorite things about it is how campy and funny it is while still giving some genuine thrills even through todays jaded eye. Whale really anticipated that perfect melding of horror and comedy that I love so much.
One of my favorite things about Young Frankenstein isn't so much that Brooks is making fun of those movies, its that he's showing you how funny they were the whole time. The blind man scene in Bride is almost the exact same scene in Young, you just KNOW that you are supposed to laugh this time around.

Couldn’t agree more. Whale could have really had an amazing career if he was born just a few decades later.

As far as Mel Brooks goes. Genius. If he lampooned something he not only loved it, but understood it inside and out.

Killer spins continue,

Going back to brooks for a sec, I think what makes him a genius, and what makes his spoofs superior to almost anything else of that ilk, is exactly that. He loves the genres he lampoons. His movies aren’t looking down at something or dismissive of the fans of something, they aren’t made to make fun of something other people love, which is why a lot of spoofs fall flat or aren’t funny. He’s someone who knows and understands art probably better than literally anyone else in world and can pinpoint what’s funny about everything because of it.

Today was a fine day...made the post office in time to return that Ghosts of Mars lp and rid myself of it's unholy stench.

Now getting a chance to finally spin this lovely one. Trunk does not disappoint....such a beautifully, clean sounding pressing.

Too late to join the party? One of Morricone's best. I picked this up at the record fair not knowing the music, a while back, surprised for sure.

Lovely listens all around, gentlemen. I have been living vicariously through all of you for a minute while my folks were here visiting, along with getting the kid off to the first year of high school, and also studying for an industry exam I'm sitting this Wednesday morning.... so with extra special thanks to @Voodoo_Jim, here is my latest study aid:

Bootleg af with only the title and "can you survive ...it happened!" on the back. Nothing but "A" and "b" carved in the dead wax. A fitting tribute to this unholy relic with decent curation and an expected inclusion of audio and dialogue given the source material available. Wretched sounds... almost enough to make you sick. *flips again for another listen*

Not sure exactly what I was expecting of this - especially since the sleeve notes by Lo Duca suggest it's a reworking of his original score, this sounds nothing like it to my ears! So, a completely different score for the film. Interesting. Glad it picked it up in any event, and also very glad that I have the original score.

Enjoying it so far, the first track/overture really reminds me of the theme from Masters of Horror! And of course Humphreys sleeve art is flawless.

EDIT* Aha...half way through Side B and I'm hearing cues that I recognise. Nice.
