Hunter x Hunter - Yoshihisa Hirano

I'm half way through this 3LP set. There is some really fantastic stuff and some stuff that is very much not for me. I enjoy a lot fo the score itself but the opening and closing songs range in quality. The closing song for the first season is a screamo autotuned mess of a song.
Very similar sentiments from over here inks, my least favourite release from TLV, im sure HxH fans will love it though the artwork is done nicely.

Today's spins
Fist of the north star - digital trip
Dragon Ball - music collection
Orguss - Hi tech series
Arion - Hi tech series

Also recently picked up this awesome book, it's in Japanese though.

Anime Disc Guide 80's: You can hear the sound of the record needle.

280 pages. Has a special feature on the digital trip series, and features TLV .

*Edit* just realised they typo'd demon city Shinjuku as wicked city, they do mention both though in the Japanese text , when I Google translated.

@Deaf: Four Flies should repress all of those :-) I still need Zoo Folle and Sortilegio as well. I knowI am not passing on any soundtrack releases from them ever again.

I ordered the new Sonor releases as well as the Beat release for Formula 1 - Nell’inferno del Grand Prix.

@Dollar: Play Loud or DIE!!!!! Nothing to add that that. What a brilliant book you have found there!

Zoo Folle and Sortilegio are both so amazing. Problem is almost everything Four Flies releases are must haves.

Deaf I need to thank you for the inspirational push on picking up the expanded edition of Big Touble from mondo. You made a nice post way back about the pressing and additional tracks on black wax. Honestly Big trouble is not a score or JC movie I normally go to but the mondo release kind of gave me a new perspective and deeper appreciation for it. It really is a beautiful and complete presentation. Thanks brother.

There are certain cuts on there, into the spirit path being a stand out, that are some of my favorite JC compositions, period. I’d put that track up against “Love at a distance” from POD and “walking out” from AOP13 in my top 5 carpenter cuts.

Top 5 Carpenter cues is the summer thread that we need

@Bez - Four Flies releases are excellent but I find it difficult to pick up every one. It has also not helped that they are pressing all those great 45’s as well. I have to be selective and pick up the ones that catch my ear.

@Evan - Big Trouble is a special one for me. I think it just hit me at the perfect age, but that film blew my young mind and the JC score is such an 80’s blast. I just love it. When I had my chance to meet Carpenter, I personally thanked him for creating Big Trouble which made him grin. I have so many favorites from his catalog, but that film and score remind me of a very imaginative part of my youth.

Nandayo!!

My god that slaps, @D! Thanks for kick starting my listening day with a fuzzed-up bang :)

This arrived yesterday - I grabbed the Dernier Domicile connu bootleg last year, but this official Universal France release adds the score from Un Aller Simple on the flipside and it's a typically fab De Roubaix orchestral Gallic Crime Funk affair. I want ALL the FDR!!

@Deaf thanks for sharing! Always love to read these personal tales. Great you were able to thank him in person. Like you mentioned it really matters when these things hit you. I feel the same about Halloween/ The Thing. I think regular folk do not realize these are not just scores and films but such a powerful part of our childhood imagination and development. So thanks again for sort of turning a light on in a darkened corner of the Carpenter room.

@Scojo damn that would be a tough call trying to pick those cues

I haven't heard any of these and feel like I should
You should indeed. There are some really excellent spaghetti western scores out there. I love the ones that start with a song the most.
