Regarding Doxy.
Maybe best to avoid if youre a full on audiophile.
Like many, I have that 'just need to have that on wax' thing which has to be sated, and i guess thats what labels like Doxy prey on.
That said I have a bunch of them which im thrilled to have in my collection, that are all highly listenable: Last Year at Marienbad, Cinema du Gainsbourg, Delerue/Truffaut...all quite obvs straight ports from old CD issue.
I guess it depends just how fussy you are on sound, and your individual moral compass regarding rights etc ;)
I dont own a single CD btw, but if I did then i would surely just stick with those original releases on disc as there'd be no point owning on wax. Thats my particular rational anyhoo!
Regarding upcoming releases however, Im excited about the Mingus Shadows OST, though again it almost certainly is just a ragtag collection of pieces that are out there digitally, which are connected to Mingus complicated association with the film.

I mentioned this somewhere else in here, I believe, but I bought Shadows recently and am very interested in receiving it for any number of reasons. I haven't done much research myself, but reading elsewhere it seems that there may in fact be unreleased material on this record. Or not. Only time will tell and it only cost me $20US to find out so I'll report back when I have it in hand.

@mateo -

Just tracked back and read your intel. Curioser and curioser!

There's quite a few references online to Shafi Hadi compositions which made their way into the 2nd cut of the film.

However, the actual tracklist on this LP states that, aside from the track Nostalgia in Times Square (which is def a Mingus contribution), it also appears that the other pieces are CM compositions.

Exactamundo, brother man. I bought this bad dad because I couldn't reconcile the tracklist with what was already available. With some articles reporting Mingus recorded over three hours of material for the film, there would be plenty to choose from, but even if those numbers are close to accurate, I don't believe Doxy had access to that much material. It's probably a bit sketchy, whatever it is. That said, I'm ready to find out.

I'm hard as a brother running a train on a jacuzzi full of Tijuana ho's........

* ref: 'Beneath the Underdog', by far the most entertaining, eyebrow raising music biog I've ever read. "You gotsta pull it out every now and then, and tease 'em, Cholly!"

I appreciate the feed back on Doxy - I had heard rumblings on it being sketchy quality, especially on Psycho. From what I recall on the availability and distribution of "grey market" music is that if it is legal in the country of origin, it can be distributed in the U.S, unless there is an extant and vigilant rights holder. I remember the flood of bootleg live CDs coming in during the early 1990's until carious loopholes were closed.

That being said, at $22.00/each, the Seven Samurai and/or Throne of Blood are still tempting if only as an experiment. That Mingus, though - I'll wait for an honest review! I'd want QUALITY for that release.

The Terminator 2LP does look really fun. Interesting contrast between Milan releasing an expanded Brad Fiedel score and what is going on with the Fright Night reissue.

I'm curious if anyone who ordered The Duke St Workshop's "Tale of HP Lovecraft" LP through Two Headed Dog received it yet. I got a shipping notice more than a week ago, but my tracking URL has it still in Shipping Label Printed. I sent email to them but haven't gotten an answer yet.

@reddye6 - I haven't had any problems with 2HD, but USPS has been shoddy about scanning tracking labels for me lately.

This wonderful OST is in stock right now at Dusty Groove:

THD aren't always the speediest ponies in the gate, Red, but they get it done properly. Nothing save good experiences here as well.

Excellent! I just put in a second order with them -- ordered the Sodium Party cassette -- and I was hoping that I wasn't just sending money to the wind.

Thanks for picking that up @reddye6 - give me a shout if you have any issues and I can follow up direct but they seem a cool little outfit that has a good range of the music we all love, so, for me, seemed a good fit for getting tapes direct to you cats in the US ;)

Oh, and our own Bandcamp sales will be going live later today (Friday) so will give the heads up here on that too.

Looking forward to hearing it, @Spun! I ordered it, for better or worse, with the People Under the Stairs OST CD. Better because I'll get to hear the PUtS score soon. Worse because OWS will probably release it eventually with extra cues and a limited 7" of radio spots, and I'll end up buying that and regretting that I spent money on the CD version. But, hey, it won't be the first time I've looked at my music-buying habits with a sense of self-disgust!

I don't believe there is anything wrong with owning music that you appreciate in different physical formats. I agree it's not great on the budget to do so, but it can be convenient to pop in a CD or a tape from time to time (especially in my old-ass car). That could also explain why I haven't bought a new car in a long time though...

Yes, I also have both cassette + vinyl or CD + vinyl of a few things, especially if it's something I really love and there are a few bonus tracks on the tape or something... Unit Black Flight springs to mind where the vinyl release had half the tracks of the cassette version... but yes, as @deaf says you've got to weigh up whether that wouldn't be better spent on a wholly new piece of music...

Speaking of which, forgot to say on this thread but the Spun Out Of Control Bandcamp is now live for anyone who hasn't yet picked up the first tape pre-order at retail: http://www.spunoutofcontrol.bandcamp.com

Per the Duke St Workshop "Lovecraft" LP, I heard back from Two Headed Dog: "Apologies for not contacting you sooner. Our shipper damaged the shipment(s) when making a mail drop off. This title was sold out so we had to reorder. We should be able to reship first thing next week." So if any of you are also waiting for your "Lovecraft" to ship, it'll hopefully be next week.
