On a similar note...

HEY! I managed to buy a beautiful, black, quiet copy of BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA today from my local brick n mortar. One of my all time favourite scores. Felt good.

So, does anybody want to buy my noisy red/yellow fleck webstore version, purchased from Mondo before they announced a retail/black edition? The one that cost me in total (well now, let me see ...) $35 for the LP, $12 in shipping and £14 in customs. So call it $60 even to cover my costs?
You can spin it atop a pole at children's magic shows to amuse the wee'yuns?

(sigh)

Definitely -- it was scheduled originally for this coming Tuesday. I was quite surprised to see it. Thanks again!

Shit a brick!

Saw this tucked away in my local store today - box set of 80s solo LPs by Nick Mason, including his unreleased score for Donald Cammell's WHITE OF THE EYE!

Super excited for this, though I'm holding out for a single release of just the score hopefully - I know for sure I'd never listen to the other two LPs. I mean, WoTE is by no means great music tbh (there are at least two excruciating 'BluesHammer'* wank jams), but I love that film and have always wanted the score. There are a couple of killer cues on it. The film gets proper Argento in parts!

* If you don't get the BluesHammer reference...you need to watch Ghost World stat!

GoM update: here's my reply from Varese - pretty formal/form-letter-ey response to these ears.

This is what it sounds like... when Scoj cries :(

This is also what it sounds like when a label calls their customers 'liars'.

Upload a video to youtube showing the audible noise, put their response in the video, post on social media! That's literally all we can do at this point. It's shitty.

Norman Records listed for pre-order the Ghibli vinyl that was talked about recently.

I am with ya. I contacted them with video proof that this looked mangled out of the package and played like an abused record. They got back to me quickly saying it affected the entire run and hold tight they are looking into options to make it better. Then after a week or two of nothing I contacted them again and they said they check them all, they all sounded great and it must even be me. And if I wanted a refund send it back. All I actually want is a good sounding copy of this :(

£41, but such beautiful artwork https://www.normanrecords.com/promos/42 ... %20instead
I think these LPs are priced expensively even in Japan. Intrigued as to the difference between the soundtrack and 'symphonic' versions of each... and the, um, 'image album' version... so in other words which of the three (if any) to go for. ;)

@spun

They do seem pricey, but new consumer goods particularly anime related stuff can have crazy prices. Some Japanese Blu-ray box set prices baffle me.

I think the Nausicaa stuff with a bit of work can be got cheaper especially if you are not fussed about obis.
The Laputa records and totoro records are worth more in og format, particularly totoro.

Imo if you were to buy one I would go with the Laputa OST. For me it catches Hisiashi at his best, and shows his diversity and also really fits together as a whole listen nicely. Gorgeous gatefold LP too! Hopefully the reissue will be faithfull.

The image albums are querky things. They have their moments but I would hunch not everyone's cup of tea. Lots of synth workouts particularly on Nausicaa.

If you really dig striaght classical orchestral score music then the symphonic suites really are well done, and definitely not merely a cheap orchestral cover of the OST.

YouTube can be very misleading trying to find clips as there are so many covers and reversions out there. Will try and find some faithfull ones.

I've been toying with the idea of getting Hitchiker's Guide, but I need to get off my lazy behind and find out which source they're using for this LP set. I simply love this series of books, radio programs, and even the TV series and film.

That hitchhikers set looks “peng”. I heard some kids say it the other day

Also Varèse refunded my ghosts and customs charge. So that’s great news!

Did you have to return the album though?
