Yeah, my copy has some gouges that are audible (soft clicking) and even a slight warp. Not the worst I've seen, but enough to bum me out. I even gave it a heavy duty cleaning and put it in a new inner sleeve. Ah well, life goes on.

My hope is that they never use those printed inners again.
Of course that's what happened. The issue I have with this scenario is that means they know there aren't any that sound okay and that's why they won't exchange them. They can't afford to. They still need to shift all the sealed "see no evil hear no evil" copies to make up for the handful-to-many returns they'll get on the ones already in the World. They're probably just trying to break even. I have some sympathy for VS here, but the whole thing feels scummy. I guess we don't have much room to kvetch since they will pay for return shipping and refund, but I'm not coughing this up; I really want it. A lot! It just peeves me being barefaced fibbed to like that. As consumers, we put up with enough lies of omission on nearly every release these days. Please don't piss down my neck then tell me it's raining.

SoundCloud samples on the above link. I revisited the film a few months back with an ear bent on the score and enjoyed it. I have not given it a complete standalone listen though. That said, this one is a must for me. One of my favorite anime films by Yoshiaki Kawajiri. Stoked to see more releases from TL.

Will be grabbing this too tomorrow. Really good to see tigerlab back in action.

I have some dup anime lps to put up for sale at some point including an og vampire hunter D and og wicked city, amongst others. Will put em up here before discogs.

Also

There a 9 ! GHIBLI LP's getting reissued in Japan soon (November 3rd) . Ogs for some of these go for silly money.

The symphonic suite, OST, and image album for Nausicaa, Laputa and Totoro. Will each get a reissue in Japan.
Can be pre ordered through Amazon Japan.

Here!

https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s?k=ghibli+lp

I highly recommend all the Nausicaa LP's (although ogs are not too expensive), and the Laputa OST and symphonic suite.
I'm not a fan of Totoro on the whole but the og of these are crazy expensive.

So, do we take them to task on social media? I honestly don't think it will change anything but it buts them in the hot seat. I'm very disappointed with them at the moment.

My stereo has been in storage for weeks now so I have NOT played my copy of Ghosts of Mars...but yea, it looks like crap straight out of the shrinkwrap. Cloudy and scuffed.

I think record companies (or maybe the record pressing plants) know they can get away with a lot of shit these days and people will always come back and buy more from them since it is such a niche genre (not only soundtrack vinyl, but vinyl in general I think).

I'd probably be interested in some of those LP's you will be putting up ;)

Do you know if those Ghibli LP's will see a stateside release?

I will try and put them up here at the weekend.

Haven't a clue if they will get released outside of Japan or not. I'm guessing Milan would release it if it does. They have released Hisaishi Ghibli stuff from the same label (tokuma/Ghibli records) outside of Japan previously e.g. spirited away, on CD. Fingers crossed.

From what I can make of the Amazon description they sound like pretty faithful reissues, the Laputa LP is gatefold with a replica anime cel overlay like the original. No sight or mention of an obi though :/

I have pre ordered three, and have been invoiced an extra 1500 yen for shipping and 2900 yen for advance payment of import tax ? This is to the UK.

I know they've been advertising a CD release along with the vinyl release of E.T., but I haven't seen/heard about a vinyl release of Schindler's List.

I honestly don't know. I'm more disappointed today than I was yesterday. It's pretty shady stuff. I've just sent them an email saying so, politely, in no uncertain terms. I doubt their reply, if there is one, will contain anything new and/or noteworthy.

I got the same reply. And I am not sending it back. To be honest it didn't sound that bad the only time I played it. My red wax copy of Manhunter has a decent amount of surface noise. ScoJo's blue copy sounds A+ to him. I am not sure anymore how bad a pressing needs to sound for me to stop listening to it. I am not audiophile. I still need to clean both records though.
I have too little time...
I am rambling. The corporate world makes me upset. Google now knows my response to emails. Sad. Beautiful trees outside. Painting. Madonna with child number 2.
Check out Edward Lipski.

Out.

Good choice, this is the superior (with added synth!) Japanese ost rather than the American dub's OST.

Regarding Varese and 'Ghosts of Mars-Gate'.... thought I'd share my email just sent to their customer service. Tried to be very measured about my disappointment, hope that's how it comes across.

Fwiw my copy of Ghosts is a disgrace. Warped, scratched, scuffed. I won’t ever buy from them again - and the fact I got stiffed for customs duty when nobody else manages to get customs charges is the icing on the cake. I buy all year round from the US. I don’t care how large the font is on their customs warning page on the website. They can go fuck themselves.

This isn't mean at all. This is the saddest of letters. I want to run into the woods with you on a rainy day and chew thumbholes in our sweaters while we bury our dead tamagotchis in the soft wet earth.

I finally received my copy today. I doesn't have any sound issues, but vinyl looks awful indeed. It's scuffed and scratched.

I only buy vinyl in mint and near mint condition, so you can understand my frustration getting a new VG copy. My Game of Thrones from VS had similar defects.

Not sure if I should send this back. Probably should.
