did any one here end up grabbing TCM from Waxwork? I've seen copies are starting to land and really curious to hear thoughts on it

The second disc was the big draw for me and the third sounds like something I'll probably never listen to? I assume this didn't sell like crazy so I may hold of to see if I can snag it at a discount in the futureinksb wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 10:04 pmScoJo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 12:08 pm I’m…. terribly excited!would love to hear your thoughts after you've given a spin
Firstly and most importantly, no regrets with buying this release. As far as ‘definitive’ goes, I can’t imagine there ever being another version of one of my favourite scores that rivals this as far as material goes.
The ‘complete’ version represented on Disc 1 is terrific, with the cues more or less in chronological order rather than mixed up like the original album tracklisting. I need to do a direct compare with my Varese copy, and (once again!) the label has made comparison more complicated by changing track titles(!), but my guess would be that there are maybe five or six completely new cues on this complete version. (Another niggly aside - couldn’t WW have just asterisked the ‘new’ tracks and indicated them as such?) I think the mix and pressing are good, and again look forward to putting it up against the wonderful sounding Varese pressing. This WW album is a completely new mix from original tape source so who knows if there are subtle (or not so) changes… Sound wise, in headphones I do hear an occasional low, grinding background sound which is not audible between tracks so suggests it’s to do with the mix rather than pressing/ some other physical factor. Also needs further investigation. I don’t know if this version will become my go-to Phantasm listen over the original album but my guess would be maybe not, for a myriad of reasons, but at this point I wouldn’t definitely rule it out.
Disc 2, unused cues, is an absolute joy to this Phantasm Phans grateful ears. All I can say is, if you love this soundtrack as much as me, it’s something special to hear new music and cue variations from that groovy Phantasm place. This is the real gold for me in this set, and I’m pretty sure I would have been very happy with just a 2x LP release.
Disc 3, the remastered original album (as in the Mondo version rather than Varese, since this also includes the bonus ‘Outtakes’ track at the end) sounds good but I won’t comment much until I get a proper chance to contrast with previous versions.
