this is something that kept my eary busy over the past few weeks. been literally obsessed with these albums.
Make (listening to) America Great Again!
there is a strong connection between these which seem to be cut from the same cloth. musically these are the ultimate lounge monsters. sleazy easy listening madness from early 80s at is't best. but not only the music and the theme topics are very similar. it seems as the same artists are behind those four albums. Simoncini (aka Arawak) is credited on American Bus and U.S.A. Picnic, but One Week In New York contains alternate versions of the latter one, so he is technically involved in all three. another similarity is the unknown sound engineer F. Watermelon, who appears on all but U.S.A. Picnic. the name is so ridiculously shabby, it can't exist in real life. the fact they came up with this funny pseudonym in the USA themes context is amusing and brilliant alike. there are even more overlaps in credits and musicians. even if they sound very similar, each has it's own touch, like the wordless vocals on One Week In San Francisco for example.
U.S.A. Picnic is my favourite one at the moment but it might change after each spin. highly recommended hunting these down. no reissues seem to exist but luckily they seem to be available in digital format at least. happy listening and a great weekend!
