So unfortunately my MD player has died. I went to play an album a few days ago and it wouldn't power on, no sounds of components trying to move, no display turning on. I watched a few videos, took it apart and tried to diagnose the problem but it looks like something has burst and corroded on the underside of the board. I found a bunch of white and blue corrosion on the edge of the board near the latch spring but I can't see where it came from.

So I'm here to ask for some suggestions on what to replace it with. This was a Sony MZ-R70.

I actually need a recorder/player not just a player.

Any one have a spare they are willing to part with that works?

I do not have any minidisc gear but it sounds like a capacitor burst or leaked. It might be possible to replace the failed cap and repair the unit if the corrosion did not damage any of the traces on the board too badly.

That was my assumption but honestly don't think I could fix it. The board is so thin it looks like you could snap it by just touching it. And due to how tiny it is I don't think I have the capability to work on something that small from a skill level.

that really does sound like a cap leaked. but those portables are so small. Might be pricey to have someone else work on it.
