Hi,
I'm thinking about releasing some of my music on Flexi Disc.
For someone like me that funds their own releases it is an affordable way to get
some of my music onto vinyl.
Does anyone actually release on Flexi Disc?
Do you like the format and would you buy something on Flexi?

The last time that I played a flexi was around 19.. and it was a advertisement for a Readers Digest subscription. They used to mail these out to subscribers. From memory it sounded like any other record to my childhood ears.

I saw recently an account on instagram that is a new horror label that is specializing in Flexis.
haven't seen any other info, can't even remember the name at the moment.

I don't play them, i have a subscription to Decibel magazine, and there is one every month with the subscription.
I have probably only played 3 -5 of the last 30 I received

Yes they are cheap to make, and cheap quality wise.

Have picked up a couple of postcard-style flexis recently from Italians Do It Better... some came with the CD box set of Lost River. They look great but still sound like dropping your needle on sandpaper when you try to play them.

OWS and DeathWaltz have also tried flexis recently of course... the OWS one with radio broadcasts for Last House on the Left seemed to work best to my ears because you weren't actually listening to a piece of pristinely recorded music, but old radio ad spots with inherent crackle and interference. I think flexis are cool, personally - when I was a kid, one brand of frozen pizzas used to give them away - but probably best viewed as a nice keepsake or as a bit of fun before anything else?

The music is quite lofi so I wonder if it will suit?

As far as i know, PIrates Press might be the only maker of Flexi discs in the USA if not the world.

the quality is fine for what they are. i would def. do regular flexis over the postcard options though.


there was a brand of round japanese flexis that came with childrens books of anime and such, that are amazing. wish that company was still in business.
also the dynaflex series of records from RCA in the 70's / early 80's were great too.

There are some fanatical flexi collectors out there like Strictly Kev AKA DJ Food. I don't care for them myself because the sound quality is very poor and degrades quickly.

I had a flexi grail in my hand today, BARBIE ROCKERS on the elusive "Mattel" microlabel, but at fifty cents it was just not in the budget

if it was GEM and the Holograms i would scooped that up.

It doesn't sound like a stable format.

The quality always seems disappointing, even for a low-fi release. They can also be a pain to get on/off the spindle. I would rather pick up a 7" vinyl.

I think so too. Can't find anyone else that makes them.

Yeah it doesn't sound worth it. With these issues taken into account it seems a little pricey in the long run.
