Inspired by the other 'least essential' thread and survey, what would you guys consider the *most* essential platters released the past year?

You never know, we might pick up some tips from each other we'd otherwise had missed (not that it matters, as these last few months of hectic releases have left me skint). Doesn't have to be limited to just soundtrack LPs this one...

I'll kick off with Beck 'Morning Phase' and throw in Utopia series 1, plus AMS' re-press of Morricone's Bird with the Crystal Plumage as an eclectic opening triple whammy...

If you could pick 3, what would they be?

There's almost certainly a world of difference between "essential" and "favourite" if I think about it hard enough, but I may as well offer a cheeky link to the start of my site's Top 50 for the year. Choosing it was fairly easy, writing it out is driving me absolutely mental. Link to numbers 50-41 is available thusly, 40-31 will be done* tonight, haven't got a bloody clue when I'm going to finish it but I mentioned my No.1 in another thread about 5 mins ago.

* maybe.

@Si - nice one, will almost certainly find something interesting on your list, but if you could just pick 3 spins to crawl into a bunker with (thus they'd have to be pretty essential), with the zombie apocalypse exploding around you perhaps and not much time to think, what would they be...?

Of the 255 albums I've ordered AND received this year (not counting any unshipped preorders)...

Wreck & Reference - Want

Clap!Clap! - Tayi Bebba

Aphex Twin - Syro

James Blackshaw- Fantomas: Le Faux Magistrat

And no, I don't know how to count.

Some of my favourite non-soundtrack releases were:

Without thinking about it, I'd plump for the following 3, not necessarily my favourites but ones that I'd happily send someone into a shop (with their own money) to buy without question:

Desertshore - Migrations of Glass
Inventions
USA Out Of Vietnam - Crashing Diseases And Incurable Airplanes

I've definitely listens to 'The War on Drugs' LP more than anything else. Also Sinoia Caves, 'Gil Scott-Heron - Nothin New', Run The Jewels 2, Caribou, Aphex Twin, Madlib/Freddie Gibbs, Objekt, FKA Twigs & Todd Terje. That's 10 fairly essentials in a year that has been a bit lacking quality (in my opinion)

Hmmm top 3 would probably be something like...

Jenny Lewis - The Voyager
Tove Lo - Queen of the Clouds
TOPS - Picture You Staring

Good shout for FKA Twigs @Peek-a-boo... probably somewhere in my top 10 and the deluxe vinyl packaging/art direction was lovely too...

I gotta go with

1. Cake Box Set- Been dying to have any Cake on Vinyl. To have it all in a nice cheapish package is awesome.
2. Bitches Brew Mofi repress- My all time favorite Jazz/Funk album now sounds even better. Especially as it's hard to find original copies in good shape.
3. Cannibal Ferox- My favorite soundtrack reissue this year. So much great toe tapping funky goodness.
4. Brown Bunny OST - Always happy to get any Frusciante on vinyl. Sadly missed a lot of the reissues that sold out super quick.
