So, I am off to Amsterdam in a few weeks for a couple of days and would really appreciate any advice on good record shops in and around the centre. I'll probably only have limited time to go digging due to it being an anniversary trip with my girlfriend, so can't really head out too far. Obviously after second hand soundtracks but also some newer Dutch electro and techno (Clone-esque).
Appreciate any pointers. :)

Concerto (a classy one, with a conjoining coffee shop, very central)

Distortion (crazy store, a bit farther from the centre - has to be seen to be believed!)

Rush Hour (more techno and electronic stuff)

Record Mania (mostly 2nd hand stuff)

Vintage Voudou and Red Light Records (two shops in a row in the Red Light District, mostly used stuff)

There's a more comprehensive list here: http://www.recordjunkie.com/stores/dire ... /amsterdam

@phil hehe usually my first point of call but not this time, got too much to fit in.

@re-animated cat, awesome list, thanks a lot. That's more than enough to be going on with. Heard good things about Distortion, is it the place with the floor made from old vinyl?

I don't remember it having vinyl on the floor, but it could have. There's just piles of vinyl everywhere, right up to ceiling - it's a total mess, but the owner is really cool. If you ask for a specific record, he will know exactly where it is. He also told me that he has another 10,000+ records out the back, which couldn't fit in the shop! Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to look around the store, but it was fun. Personally, I liked Concerto a lot, not the best selection, but my girlfriend could sit down, have a coffee and read some of their books while I browsed the vinyl.

yeah, i think he got closed down for a bit by health and safety. then he introduced some kind of system that customers might be able to figure out as well as himself, but he is just chaos by nature and his shop is pretty much a state again.

To be fair to him he knows where everything is but its just to torturous to go find anything, which is a shame as I bet he has some serious gems in there.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I could probably guess 99% of his stock (you can already see a copy of Grease in that photo!), but that other 1%, damn those could be pure gold.

haha those are both treasure troves. Could easily spend a week digging through those crates. Holy shit, Rob's looks like an episode of "Hoarders". Wonder how many Saturday Night Fever's he has?
