How's CARRION? Sounds like some fairly intense body horror. I was rummaging through the quarter bin at the local used bookstore and found a first edition pb copy of Off Season by Jack Ketchum....my hands shook picking it up.

Just started reading Neuromancer this morning...

Carrion is pretty good. I enoyed the first half better than the second. The main character, Fain, is a self-centered smuck and his attitude about being able to raise the dead is so nonchalant it had me chuckling. There is little horror in it in my opinion but still very readable. Brandner makes things interesting enough to keep me turning the pages. I'll be finishing it today.

Congrats on finding your copy of Off Season. Been there with the shaking hands bit :). Is this copy the black cover with the drop of blood? I dont remember alot from the books I read back in the 80's but there are scenes from that book that still stick in my head. It may seem mild with whats out there these days but for it's time, that was heavy stuff. Still got my original copy.

Brandner's a good writer, at the very least puts forth interesting ideas in interesting ways. Will look around, maybe my library has a digital copy to sample.

Yeah you nailed it. Black cover, drop of blood. About a third of the size of the author's preferred version released much later.

Another Avon paperpack original author, MIchael McDowell, was always a favorite of mine. His Blackwater series is great. I reread it a couple of years ago. And last year I reread The Elementals, another great one. He is also resposible for giving us the screeplays to Beetlejuice and The NIghtmare before Christmas. I don't remember very much about this book so I'm looking forward to revisiting it. He passed away in December of 1999 from AIDS. We lost a great one too soon.

I like it too. The artist wasn't credited on the copyright page. From what I've been able to find it was done by Don Ivan Punchatz. He did alot of Science Fiction and Fantasy book art.

These are what I've been reading recently. Been trying to stay in the rhythm of reading everyday even if it's only 20-30 mins. Highly recommend Coffin Moon, enjoyable spin on vampire story that had me wanting to revisit Near Dark. In the Miso Soup was excellent, wasn't sure what to expect but it was brutal and unfolded in a great way. Audition I knew exactly what to expect and still loved it. I'm waiting for my next book to arrive so I grabbed that King book to read some shorts in the meantime

My curiosity has been piqued for Keith Rosson. I haven't read any of his stuff but it all seems to get good reviews. I may have to pick up Coffin Moon. Been thinking about visiting Night Shift again but it may get put on the back burner. I do want to reread Talisman and Black House before T3 is released.

I think by now everyone on this thread knows my love for Robert McCammon. For me, he is right up there along side Stephen King. I'm sharing this in case there is anyone else out there who shares this love :) or is just another fellow collector of special hardcover edition books. Lividian Press has announced the Robert McCammon Library and it's something I'm looking forward to. They are starting with his first book Baal. All info, future plans, and how to order is in the link below.

Just picking this one up. I really enjoyed Devil's Creek so thought I'd try his short story collection.

This is the signed limited from Thunderstorm Books.

Curious your thoughts on this collection, I've heard very positive things but from only one person (brother) and we typically differ in our reading preferences. A few overlaps here and there of course. But I loved Keisling's Scanlines a few years ago.

I just finished with To Charles Fort, With Love by Caitlin R. Kiernan and I absolutely loved it. If you haven't read their story 'Onion' I'd highly recommend it, just to give you a taste.

I really enjoyed Keisling's Devil's Creek so I was looking forward to these. I finished the Cold section last night. I'm enjoying the collection so far. I like his style of writing. I also have The Sundowner’s Dance which I'll be pciking up sometime soon (I hope) and most likely will be looking into his earlier stuff. If you've already read something from him I would say give it a go. I recommned Devil's Creek also.

They are fully versed and completely enmeshed in the Mythos, and they might be one of the best working writers in the genre! Glad you dug it!

About 100 into this one. It's enjoyable and Mr. Brandner is keeping my attention. So far a chemical mishap, a virus spreads along with madness and mayhem, and a down and out reporter is connecting the dots. That's about as far as I'm in. A chapter involving Russia so they may be involved in some way even though at this point the reader knows who's resposible for the chemical mishap. A typical 80's horror that's better than most. Not a keeper but worth a read since it's been on my shelf for so long. :)

Nice! I've got the new edition put out by Fathom Press sitting there waiting on my shelves! Great art, the opening was pretty intensely written as well! Looking forward to reading it!

Finished "The Brain Eaters" last night. It was a fun read. Brandner knows how to keep the pages turning. Just when it would start to lag a bit something would happen. Like most 80's horror, the story wrapped up quickly in the last chapter or two.
Next is a re-read of "The Jade Unicorn". I remember reading this in my late teens and enjoying it. The only think I remember (and I think it's in this book) is there's a black mass/satanic rites scene that kinda took me by surprise towords the end. We'll see how it holds up.

Finished up Jade Unicorn last night. I enjoyed it and I'm a bit surprised I didn't remember parts of it from my first reading. A bit too long though. It could have been trimmed by 50-100 pages.
Got this next one as part of a Subterranean Press grab bag and it's been on the shelf for-e-ver! Decided to pick it up on @chuggers recommendation, even if "Onion" isn't part of this collection.

Nice! I have that lined up in my next three or four reads as well! Tgis week I'm reading through some Jeffrey Thomas chapbooks, waiting for the weekend to start a co-read with a buddy of The Puppet King and Other Atonements by Justin Burnett and the either The Human Stares by Charles Wilkinson or this one by Caitlin Kiernan!
