My itchy trigger finger has been slowly pointing at the Be With Records KPM 1000 reissue series. They’ve got a seemingly endless catalogue, can anyone recommend a decent starting point? Apart from KPM

Happily. I have both of the Steve Hiett LPs on preorder. Letta Mbulu rules. as do The Moments. Willie Hutch, Leon Ware, and all of their soul stuff is worth at least a try-before-you-buy listen.

Is the Alan Parker Themes International/ Sound of Soul worth getting? Or wait for a decent copy on discogs?

It's a great record imo, but worth noting it's an instrumental version of 'voice of soul'
Synthesizer and percussion would be my top choice of those themes LP's

Big business and voices of harmony on kpm are killers also!!!

I don't know the pressing numbers but I would not be at all surprised if 2nd hand copies will be floating around for a good while.

I don't own any be with records so can't comment on the sound quality.

I would also add you could always grab a copy of this og OST which is comprised of a lot of cuts from the two 'drama suite' LPs on Themes international (the two most sought after).

@dollar I notice the CD version has a load of the suite on CD2. How complete is it? Worth a go? It’s £10 so quite tempting

The one on Vocalion? That looks pretty sweet, of course not vinyl though. I think it contains the hanged man OST plus the rest of drama suite 1 and 2 as you say, plus they have stuck a selection of similar cop show tracks from the rest of the themes catalogue. Some killer jams in there

@dollar the madness continues. The Be With Synths LP you recommended above is totally banging! I went a little further and got the Black Pearl reissue LP on DeWolfe which is pretty storming, as well as both the Voice of Soul and Instrumental version Sound Of Soul on digital. Surprising amount of Themes LPs available digitally.

AND nick ingman’s holy grail Big Beat is on iTunes for £7.99.

Not especially relevant, however, Alan Hawkshaw just followed my mate on insta. AND there is a green KPM jumper out there somewhere
