Incident in a Ghostland is in my to-watch queue @Bez. It's meant to be as 'full on' relentless in it's brutality as Martyrs, had mixed reviews. And yes, Martyrs really is as punishing as it's reputation, but it's by no means mindless torture porn. It has an emotional journey, and for better or worse, actually aims to have something to say about those that survive extreme acts etc.

I personally 'enjoyed' it for the most part, though confess it's not something that thrilled me (I do prefer my ultra-violence to be more on the silly/fantastical side...and generally avoid the new-wave of 'feel bad' shock cinema coming out of Europe.)

The music is, however, quite excellent. I distinctly recall noticing it during the film. Both emotional and rich, and with some propulsive electronica if I remember right. I'll be picking this up for sure.

You've never seen Martyrs @bez? It's ones of the most horrific, gut wrenching films of 00's. It lazily get's lumped into 'torture porn' but it is not by any means the same as SAW or Hostel. It's an extremely violent film and yes there are some scenes of torture. IMO it's the best out of the French Extreme films of the 00's (I also like Inside but this is better). I don't revisit it often but it's very good. The other film Ghostland is ok, I think I wrote a small review in Now Watching thread at some point. It's a nice little thriller ghost story type thing. Shot well, acting is great but it just doesn't have the impact that Martyrs did, it's not trying to either though. Worth a watch if you can find it streaming. I would prioritize Martyrs though.

I may pick up the OST of Martyrs though. Clever packaging.

I have not. To be honest hearing it is so horrific I am not sure it is for me. When I was younger I probably wouldn't mind. But for some reason I became more apprehensive getting older. I do not mind the gore of the eighties. But when it becomes to 'real' I think I'll pass.

No shame in this at all @Bez. I'm the same way these days. And for that reason, I highly recommend...ignoring anyone who tries to convince you that you need to see A Serbian Film. Trust me - you don't.

There's no denying it's a tough film to watch. I am not a fan of overly "realistic" gore either. I have zero interest in watching crap like A Serbian Film which is just violent to be violent. I will probably never revisit Hostel 1 or 2. I also prefer gore of the 80's where it's a wonderfully stylized effects shot. I don't need to see the person suffering or being beaten in the process. I do think that out of all the French Extreme films it is the one to watch, the rest can be skipped. But as both ScoJo and me stated, it's not a film to go back and visit. It's an experience you only need to have once. I would never fault some one for skipping it due to the graphic violence.

How are the movies?
Martyrs is one of the most disgusting film I have ever seen.
I just now read the plot/synopsis on Wikipedia. I am not going to try this one. I can understand the appeal. But I simply don't want to undergo this. Give me Hellraiser any day of the week. But not this :-)

I am not intending to derail this thread further but reading a bit about this New wave of French horror I see a reference to the Belgian movie Calvaire (2004): https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407621/
I liked Calvaire a lot.

I have to say the art direction for these covers don't do much for me. They're okay, they feel a bit too empty and decontextualized to me, but they're okay. I'm glad to get a chance to own these soundtracks anyway. I ordered both when they went live on the webstore. they end up being quite expensive. Even a bit more expensive than Waxwork's releases. Fingers crossed I don't get charged extra for customs.

I'm a big fan of Martyrs. I think that movie is a punch in the guts. When Goldmund's ''My Neighborhood'' plays in the movie, it's so sad.

We think around April, 20th. We aren't sure for the moment, the pressing had started two weeks ago.

AnnouncementThe Omega Productions Records is proud to annonce our new vinyl and CD releases as our first volume of our next collection Amour à la française.

Image

The Amour à la française collection specializes in rare or unreleased French erotic/soft-core/pornographic film soundtracks. Controversy aside, the adult film industry has enjoyed great freedom, in terms of music, ranging from classical compositions by the likes of Daniel J. White to the awesome groove of Yan Tregger or Alain Wisniak.

We will reveal the title June, 3rd on all social networks. Pre-orders will start June, 15th only at our website.
