Gavin Morrow is also Grey Frequency.

Hey chaps.... hope everyone is good & spinning the wax...

A heads up on a new vinyl release up for pre-order this Friday - Bandcamp are doing another 24hr fee waiver - and which we should have in hand to ship early Sept, so not too long to wait!

Imagine if Nicolas Winding Refn made a movie and got Tangerine Dream to soundtrack it, and you'll have a little flavour of what this is like..

Here's the 'blurb':

Between the release of their scores to Midnight Demon & Midnight Demon , the L.A. synth duo of Terry Ferrello and Frank Heisenberg - aka Turquoise Moon - recorded a studio album for a major label.

Since 1985, that album has remained in the vaults...

Until now!

"A fantastic slice of analogue synth work... a cruise with the top down, sunglasses on and palm trees whizzing beside you... thank God it's no longer lost..." Electronic Sound magazine on Turquoise Moon's The Sunset City.

Re-mastered from the original reels by Andy Fosberry (who we've also released as Sunset Graves)
Artwork restored by the mighty John Bergin, who you'll know for all his work with Lakeshore.

There are two variants available (150 copies of each) - either choose from 'Turquoise Moon' (clear turquoise) or 'LA Sunset Fireball' (colour in colour). All hand numbered with Japanese style paper OBI strip, anti static inner & overbag.

Sample track 'She's in Motion' on our spunoutofcontrol Soundcloud page now!

I really like the look of the upcoming LP5 on the back of the obi.

I have a question for you @spun, I hope you don't take offense to this it's an honest question. What made you choose a more "traditional" synthwave look for this album design. I usually associate purple/pink colors, neon, triangles and 80's pop culture styling with the standard synthwave stuff which you never put out.

love that obi too, looks great

Because Inks, this album is from 1985! ;)

Good question though.

A little insight into the creative process... John Bergin (who we knew would be sympathetic to that whole 80s aesthetic) worked magic based on this original concept shot...

Being from the UK, don't know how common flaming pines are in LA, but it is certainly a strong image suggesting a long hot, dry summer ...

That is a striking image! I am not from LA and have never seen a burning palm tree. Thanks for the insight into the process

The Turquoise Moon LP is up for pre-order now at Bandcamp in two variants... also doing a bundle for both LPs that reduces the overall cost by a couple of quid, and naturally you can take advantage of combined shipping... which is a little kinder for our worldwide and US cousins who are now otherwise paying an arm and a leg for vinyl shipping since July 1st.

If that's not enough enticement there's also a suitably 80s video up online for second track on the album 'Sidewalks of Gold'

Check it out - and feel the bass in ya face!

Heads up fellow ferric fiends...

Well, after a trio of vinyl releases, there's a new Spun... tape up for grabs in two flavours via www.spunoutofcontrol.bandcamp.com

Here's the lowdown:

Electronic musician James McKeown’s Hawskmoor debuts on Spun Out Of Control with new album ‘Methods of Dreaming’

Mixing elements of ‘kosmische’, library records, Cliff Martinez soundtracks & pioneering electronic artists like Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze and Vangelis – in doing so delivering a ‘deep listen’ that will take you out of your surroundings and stresses for an immersive 40 minutes – Hawksmoor’s ‘Methods of Dreaming’ offers a chance to do exactly what its title suggests.

Its deliberately minimal textures have been created from an array of Moogs, soft synths, tape loops and processed guitars, with live bass lines creating rhythmic pulses. Mellifluous, flowing and ethereal, this is a launch pad for dreamscapes.

Presented as a limited edition of 180 cassettes split between two colour shells: Melted Wax Apple (clear red) or Dream Catcher (smoke effect). Artwork exclusively commissioned for this release by Eric Adrian Lee.

Hawksmoor’s James McKeown on the creation of ‘Methods of Dreaming’:

Confronted with unpredictable circumstances, my solution was to look for escape and some form of mental release.

My research unearthed a 1979 paper titled ‘Methods of Dreaming’ by Prof. R.J. Bennett of the Milton Keynes Institute for Neurological Dream Research. In it, he details his investigations into the methods of invoking dream states, lucid dreaming and harnessing dream logic. This document effectively provided a guidebook for achieving expansion of consciousness, cerebral escape and transcendence, becoming the inspiration behind the creation of this music.

For those of you who can't get enough of the plastic cogs.... we have two Halloween themed releases landing this month... and up for pre-order now from Bandcamp (with only handful left at the time of typing)

Rupert Lally has composed a track by track, place by place soundtrack to the 'evil locations' in the novels of Stephen King... while Andy Fosberry has recorded a contemporary score for the original 1990s found footage Blair Witch Project...

If that wasn't all, on Side B he has re-imagined his score as a 1970s/1980s synth score... imagine Vangelis dragging his hulking Yamaha CS 80 down to the forest.

Really inventive, class stuff from both guys.

Need to keep the SOS tape collection complete!

A fresh take on a recent 'classic' for our first Spun... vinyl LP release of 2021. Catalogue number SOOC LP7

Soundcloud preview here: https://soundcloud.com/spunoutofcontrol ... e-sleepers

Pre-order up now at Norman Records ... will also be up on our Bandcamp page this Friday 5th for those who want to support direct :)

Norman link: https://www.normanrecords.com/records/1 ... e-sleepers

Here's the blurb:

Electronic artist Hattie Cooke’s ‘The Sleepers’ LP is re-mastered for an all-new vinyl edition on Spun Out Of Control

Cinematic synth album ‘The Sleepers’ re-awakens on vinyl for 2021, with an all-new master and a freshly recorded bonus track of the same name that wasn’t on the previous sold out cassette release/s. The new edition, once again on Spun Out Of Control and this time pressed on aquamarine vinyl, mixes upbeat synth bangers with hauntological drones and emotionally atmospheric instrumentals.

Electronic Sound magazine says of Hattie Cooke’s ‘The Sleepers’: ‘An enjoyably dark and woozy musical journey, perfect for a case Mulder and Scully would relish…’

The cover artwork for this first-ever vinyl issue has been re-imagined by original artist Eric Adrian Lee. Initially mastered by Nicholas Langley, the new 2021 vinyl master is by Antony Ryan. Retail copies include a download card.

Limited to 350 hand-numbered copies worldwide with Obi strip, anti static inner sleeve and plastic over bag, the vinyl LP’s catalogue number is SOOC LP7.

The story behind ‘The Sleepers’, written by Hattie Cooke:

People everywhere are falling asleep and not waking up, but nobody knows why. As the scientific community struggles to find a cure, a violent, new cult known as ‘the sect’ emerges with a mission: to sacrifice the sleepers and achieve absolution. One morning, Maude awakes to find her sleeping son taken by the sect in the night. Searching for answers, she infiltrates the sect posing as a new convert. But she soon finds herself facing unexpected problems when she begins to fall for a fellow member who seems different from the rest. Will Maude find the answers she’s looking for?

One more time...

A quick heads up... Mondo has distribution copies of our Proto Droids Cybernetic World vinyl release from late last year for anyone in the US who slept on it direct... they have both the Robot Sweat colour-in-colour variant which has been sold out direct for the past couple of months... plus the Short Circuit multicoloured splatter option.

These have already shipped out to Mondo, so they have them in hand, no pre-orders. :)

All the details here:

New vinyl release up at Bandcamp tomorrow... our biggest to date, with 8x printed postcards signed by the band for those who get in early :)

Here's the low-down for the Spin... brethren in advance of everywhere else... if you are overseas and don't know Mark Radcliffe, he's arguably the closest we have to a present day John Peel, presenting and breaking new music across TV and radio.

Mark Radcliffe & Paul Langley unite as electronic duo UNE for icy synth album ‘Spomenik’

An album inspired by Cold War era concrete and steel monoliths, constructed from sounds that echo the likes of Kraftwerk, OMD and the Hacienda classics. ‘Spomenik’ is the third LP from electronic duo UNE – broadcaster Mark Radcliffe and electronic musician Paul S. Langley – following Lost and Deux. It’s a very different beast compared to its predecessors, taking largely an instrumental route. Presented as a continuous musical mix spread over two sides of limited edition vinyl – choose from ‘Spomenik Silver’ or ‘Permafrost’ clear with ice blue splatter – its sounds weave through pioneering late 70s and early 80s electronica, while being informed by 90’s and 00’s club culture. Truly monumental…

Cover artwork provided by Eric Adrian Lee. Label catalogue number: SOOC LP8.

UNE’s Mark Radcliffe on the inspiration behind ‘Spomenik’:

The word ‘spomenik’ means ‘monument’ in Serbo-Croatian, but these myriad peculiar obelisks are so much more than that. They were commissioned and built in the sixties and seventies under the rule of Marshal Tito in the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and their meaning was threefold.

Firstly, they commemorated the fallen of World War II, in the same way that war memorials do in every British town. During the conflict, Tito himself had led the highly effective Partisan resistance movement against the Nazis.

Secondly, these spomeniks broke away from the figurative sculpture of the past in an attempt to distance the country from the iron grip of Stalinism. They also left behind the statuary of war heroes and generals, so that no ethnic group, of which there were many (as witnessed by the Balkan disputes of the early nineties), would be seen as being favoured.

Thirdly, their uncompromising brutalist modernism pointed the way to a bright new future. The past was being commemorated, but a glorious new state of togetherness, harmony and progress was also being signalled. Children were herded to these cenotaphs to perch on concrete cast stools and communally celebrate the new people’s state they found themselves in. It is a unique project, not found anywhere else in the world, at any point in history.

Now left standing in often remote sites in various stages of dis-repair, these looming presences seem to combine the brooding visages of Easter Island statues with the ancient history of standing stones and the tantalising possibility of alien intervention. We know how and why they got there – and yet none of that diminishes their sense of mystery. These enigmatic structures inspired this music. For further information visit spomenikdatabase.org

Hey Spun, for the upcoming Concrete Island LP, will any copies be going to Norman Records or to Two Headed Dog? I want to get it but also save a little on Bandcamp shipping to the US.
