Puppet Master (The Music Collection) LP

ON FULL MOON PRODUCTIONS

There are but a handful of composers toiling in terror that fully understand how to manipulate an image. Max Steiner, Bernard Hermann, Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith, Riz Ortalani, Danny Elfman, Christopher Young; all of these visionary artists helped define not only how we watch horror and dark fantasy films, but how we listen to them as well. We can easily add Richard Band to that list of heavy sonic hitters.

The veteran music man has sculpted dozens upon dozens of rapturous scores for films ranging from the classic (RE-ANIMATOR) to the curious (MUTANT) to the questionable (LASERBLAST). But perhaps no other work defines Band’s genius than the haunting soundtrack he created for his Brother Charles Band’s immortal 1989 thriller PUPPET MASTER and its many sequels.

The tale of a mystical puppeteer named Andre Toulon and his troupe of living, lethal marionettes who are dispatched through the ages to commit all manner of mischief and murder, the PUPPET MASTER films are the Band brothers’ calling cards, revered B movies that exemplify craft and have over, the past quarter century, have etched a fascinating cinematic mythology.

Outside of the presence of the now iconic dolls themselves, at the center of the PUPPET MASTER voodoo is that haunting Band music and of course the gently malevolent theme itself. Taking tinkling found sounds, electronic and symphonic elements and weaving them into a majestic death waltz, the PUPPET MASTER theme speaks of magic, mystery and the unknown. Along with the other marvelous themes, cues and stings you’ll find here from many of the PUPPET MASTER sequels, this music is a testament to Richard Band’s talent and ability to turn even the most modestly budgeted effort into rich, fully immersive and grandiose cinematic experiences.

So sit back, relax, put needle to wax and lose yourself in Band’s charmingly perverse macabre music. And for best results…please…listen in the dark.

Looking forward to receiving these with my next sub delivery! I love that One Way Static offers some distribution for these titles on top of the in-house releases. Keep up the great work! Methinks I would spend waaaaay too much money if you guys keep adding to the selection, and I'd totally be ok with that, haha.

Zombi Holocaust (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack & Remixes) LP

ON MANNEQUIN RECORDS

Mannequin Records is elated to present a selection of the killer “Zombi Holocaust” soundtrack by Nico Fidenco, remixed by Mannequin Records boss Alessandro Adriani on the B side.

‘Zombi Holocaust‘ movie is another slice of Italian zombie craziness for the late 70’s/early 1980s. The film, released in 1979, was directed by Marino Girolami, and starred Italian zombie favorite Ian McCulloch.

In contrast to the sleazy and gory action on the screen, the soundtrack of the maestro Nico Fidenco is a thing of beauty and great depth, with captivating musicianship on display. The soundtrack is a rich blend of electronic/synthesizer tracks, experimental electronics, soaring acoustic and orchestral numbers with tinges of Spaghetti Western soundtracks, frenetic drumming coupled with woodwind instruments, and chants and manipulated wordless vocals. This eclectic blend is skillfully woven together to create a soundtrack that is unique, richly textured, and one that can stand side by side with the best works of other great Italian soundtrack composers.

The selection of the tracks was following a particular path, where dark synthesizers, drones and slow burning electronic beats have a voice in. Alessandro Adriani used to play often tracks out of the soundtrack in his dj sets, as it manages to sound totally modern, so it was totally natural for him to rework “The Magic Is In Progress”, now transformed in a whole B-side 10 minutes dancefloor acid/ebm ride. TIP!

Mastered by Rude 66. Tracks selection, remix and graphic design by Alessandro Adriani. Limited edition of 300 copies on red vinyl.

Devilman 'The Birth' (Original 1987 Anime Soundtrack) LP

TIGER LAB VINYL proudly announces their second release 'Devilman :The Birth' (Original 1987 Anime Soundtrack) by Kenji Kawai.

"Devilman, created by Go Nagai is one of every anime fan’s favorite anti-hero superstars,” says Jon Dobyns, co-founder of Tiger Lab Vinyl.

The score, composed by Kenji Kawai (Ghost In The Shell, Ringu) released here by Tiger Lab is the original 1987 video animation soundtrack, remastered for vinyl by Heba Kadry at Timeless Mastering.

Available on 180 gram Akira and Amon swirl (Limited to 500 copies) or 180 gram black vinyl (Limited to 1000 copies) with gatefold packaging and artwork created by Sam Pfannkuche. This will be the first ever official wide release of the soundtrack.

“We could’t be happier to include this Kenji Kawai score to the Tiger Lab discography,” says Dobyns. TLV worked closely with Kawai, his team, and King Records to present the finest edition of the score on vinyl.

The electronic and orchestral score includes two bonus tracks from the band Anthem, which play during the seance and transformation scenes from the movie.

“The beginning theme is one of Kawai’s most beautifully written pieces,” says Dobyns, “His ethereal and brilliant melodies sit eerily behind the prehistoric pandemonium of the opening scene.” An example of Kawai’s earlier work, the score to DEVILMAN: The Birth demonstrates his strength as a composer. The iconic Devilman theme helped catapult the character into rockstar status.

Last House on Dead End Street (Original 1977 Motion Picture Soundtrack) LP

On VOMBIS RECORDS

After decades of languishing in the cryptic haze of shabby bootlegs, the soundtrack to Roger Watkins' sleazy horror magnum opus 'Last House on Dead End Street' (1977) is finally achieving the grand debut it deserves. Comprised entirely of tracks from the legendary KPM Music Library, the soundtrack is a unique blend of haunting experimental terror electronics - the pure atmospheric embodiment of the film's oppressive ominous vibe.

Since none of the music is credited in the film, it has taken years of independent fan research to compile the complete electronic soundtrack. Library music aficionados had to identify each music cue by ear based solely on encyclopedic knowledge of the vast KPM discography. The fact that this identification succeeded all the way down to the exact source of synth sound-effects from the infamous vivisection sequence is a testament to the maniacal obsession this film breeds in its fans.

For this vinyl-only release all tracks have been sourced directly from KPM's archival master tapes, exposing the full dynamics & penetrating intensity of this music. As an added bonus, some of KPM's masters run longer than the versions that they originally issued on LP and are included here in their complete expanded form. All artwork was scanned from a rare surviving 35mm print to properly capture its grindhouse grime.

Isolated from the film, the music is an astounding & impactfully curated collection of sinister hidden gems from the mythic underworld of British 1970s avant-garde electronic music including Delia Derbyshire, David Fanshawe, Ron Geesin, Alan Hawkshaw, Eric Peters, and Lewis Stern.ce chiesa 1” and “Suspence chiesa 2”, absent in the original 1989 LP.

* All tracks re-mastered from KPM master tapes * Several tracks included in previously unreleased extended versions * LP housed in deluxe Stoughton “Tip-On” jacket

Woohoo! Never thought LHoDES would get a proper soundtrack release - the email caused me to do a genuine double-take. Looks like I can finally retire Fearlono's custom OST.

Oh, and Vinegar Syndrome is still putting out a proper special edition release of the film on Blu-Ray sometime in the future, it's just taking them ages to restore because the 35mm blow-up neg was so faded that some reels were totally unusable. The version on the Corruption Blu-Ray is a scan of one of the theatrical prints they have.
