Since Strange Disc is now part of the One Way Static/Tidal Waves Group I thought I'd post this in the OWS forum

THE ELM STREET GROUP (FEATURING ROBERT ENGLUND) "FREDDY'S GREATEST HITS" LP

Originally released in 1987 at the height of the ‘Freddy’ craze (Freddy already had three movies under his belt, and a fourth on the way. Even by then, he was a veritable pop icon, as Americana as hot dogs). This record contains nine tracks, a mix of covers (from the likes of ‘Wilson Pickett’, ‘The Everly Brothers’ & ‘Sam the Sham and The Pharaohs’) and original songs and instrumentals.

The album is everything you except it to be: screaming 80’s drum machines & distortion filled electric guitars being drowned out by synthesizers. Over the top of these songs is Robert Englund doing the voice (and manic laugh) of Freddy Kruger. The actual music-making was done by the “Elm Street Group”, who were actually much respected studio musicians working for RIC records. Featuring artists like ‘Kevin Kelly’ & ‘Alan Brewer’ who both contributed to Rick Wakeman’s soundtrack for ‘The Burning’.

This audible oddity can be called the ultimate ‘novelty’ album, mostly ignored upon the time of its release and now ironically fetching big $$$ on the second hand market, this album makes the perfect ‘guilty pleasure’ gift for the Holiday season. For ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ collectors, Freddy fanatics or lovers of everything oddball.

Available as a limited classic black vinyl edition & as a color vinyl variant (#400 copies Freddy Sweater Striped vinyl) available exclusively from LIGHT IN THE ATTIC & MONDO in North America and through TRANSMISSION in Europe. Next to this, GRAYWHALE RECORDS is also offering an exclusive color variant (#100 copies Clear Red Spatter vinyl) available from their website … and to top all this off, Strange Disc Records partnered up with ZAVVI to bring you an extra color vinyl variant (#200 copies Freddy Green vinyl) exclusively available through the ZAVVI website!

I agree 100% with this. The cover art is really cool, but the music is so bad... I just don't understand this release. What's next? A reissue of this turd?:

I admit I do not understand the demand for this record... a couple years ago I could only get like $25 for a super clean NM original copy when I sold mine. The cover picture is fun. And the merch order form in the original press was pretty cool. I thought the record was horrible. Definitely snagged Another WolfCop and the new Death Waltz though!

I guess most people just consider it a cool and fun novelty thing...it's a really cool piece of wax but nothing to take too seriously :-)

Update : Mondo is sold out, a small amount of copies is available through LITA (USA) and Transmission (Europe).
These won't last long either.
