I'll probably pass on the March 4th release and wait until the new variant goes on sale.

I certainly prefer the way the other companies are releasing their variants, it saves everyone money and comes closer to making sure everyone gets what they want. However I have a really hard time not getting caught up in the fun of opening a mondo record and getting a variant that I was after. Most of you have probably been collecting vinyl for quite some time so I can see getting tired of the same old colors but as a new collector I still enjoy seeing them all. If I end up with a couple black extras I can sell them for a slight loss and if I end up with an extra variant I can trade it for something else I'm after. It all usually works out fine with no big loss in the end

Wow so there were originally supposed to be 1000 variants mixed in with the regular release, that's gonna make getting one of the 200 next to impossible. On the bright side I guess the other 800 will be sold separately down the road

I haven't seen The Omen is a very, very long time so what does the skeletons on the Mondo LP have to do with the movie?

I'm surprised Blue Sunshine is still available! Would have expected it to sell out opening day considering how limited it is.

@bitewerks - when Thorn and the photographer open the grave in the old cemetery, there is the infant skeleton (Thorn's original newborn baby that "died during childbirth") with his skull crushed and another skeleton of a jackal.

So, basically, you always buy multiple copies.

Oh, man. So much to take in and respond to, but I'm at work so I'll distill it down to points directly related to Mondo. The lottery system didn't bother me for a long time, but after being spoiled by other labels (a good thing), many of which are represented here, I have found it increasingly difficult to resist the urge to purchase multiple Mondo (or Waxwork) copies to get a variant that I want. The good news is that there are many of Mondo's releases where I prefer the black to, or at least like it as much as, the variant. Omen, Poltergeist, Blue Sunshine (standard variant anyhow) to name a few. I also preferred The standard Reanimator and the black LHOTL. I'm drifting; I think $20-25 for a single LP is fine pricing. It is right in line with, if not cheaper than, many other reissue labels who don't offer gatefolds or variants or commission original artwork. Quick question for all of you: Now that we know there were an additional 800 variants planned for this release for a total of 1000 variants, how large do you think this pressing is? And do you think the 200 that will be for sale were inteded to go for sale with the 800 and the standard variants or were they going to be for an event or festival like Blue Sunshine blueniris or Halloween splatter? Anyhow I've got to get back to the salt mine. Cheers, gang!

Hmmm, I've really started lose my interest in variants lately. It just doesn't seem as special anymore to just have a color other than black. I do however like the idea of "die hard" versions of releases. A lot of underground black metal bands do this. You can buy a regular version for a normal price, then a stepped up version with extras likes patches, posters, colored vinyl, etc, and then a "die hard" version which has a ton of extra shit enclosed in a wooden box constructed with Thor's hammer at a high price. All limited. So you pay more if you want to get more. Makes sense to me.

Full disclosure: I did buy 2 copies of Blue Sunshine because I'm a fuckin hypocrite :-)

The Omen looks cool, but I feel the same way with this one as I did with Poltergeist, and that is that the black looks just as nice. So again, one copy it will be. I'm done with the Mondo variant hunt. As for Death Waltz, I've got Sub 3 and I've ordered the public variant of all their recent releases, and will probably continue to do so because I like what they do and want to support that.

I was curious to find out from others because dumaisaudio mentioned Mondo's Poltergeist. Of all of their releases, that was the one that I was most excited to get. I have the variant of Maniac (remake) on white vinyl, which sounds great, I also have the blue variant of The Beyond, which also sounds great. I have two different versions of Poltergeist and both sound terrible. I have the regular black edition which has a low hum that I woud guess must be inherent to the source because I can hear it during every quiet passage. It's also got a good amount of background crackle noise that isn't present on either The Beyond, or Maniac. Then during Record Store Day last year I picked up the Glow In The Dark version of Poltergiest and it unlistenable. It's got an extreme amount of noise. I have washed/cleaned both the black and glow versions and while there was some improvement in the black version, neither sounds good enough that I'd put them on my turntable to listen to. I have to admit that I was really bummed out as I was so excited that they released it.

Did anyone els have this issue with Mondo's Poltergeist? Especially the low hum that can be heard in the quieter parts of the music?

Well the Glow In The Dark version just comes from the fact that it's Glow In The Dark, which has been discussed at length in the OWS thread. Basically, that type of vinyl just doesn't sound good, and is more of a gimmick. The recent Hills Have Eyes variant was split glow and amber, so you can pick up on how noisy the glow is because you have the other half to compare it to, so it's constantly quiet and then noisy. With Poltergeist, it's just a constant (I'm guessing, never was able to get it). Funny, as my old Kraftwerk Neon Lights glow single doesn't sound half bad actually, and it's almost 40 years old.

It's been a while since I played my black copy, but I just put it on and it's very quiet and what I would expect from a new vinyl copy. I don't hear any hum between tracks or during them. I haven't had any issues with audio quality from Mondo, and I've got a copy of each release.

Just got my package, both were black. Luck of the draw, though I'm not that bummed about it, at least not enough to hunt them down. I was hoping at least one would have been the variant, considering I just ordered one of each. Oh well.

Can someone clear the shipping destinations from mondo up for me. Do they deliver outside of the US? I was under the impression that their releases were US only or did I read that only about a particular release they only had US rights for and have taken it as the standard incorrectly? Would really appreciate if someone can help me out here as im UK based and while the ever generous guys here on the forum are helping me get the latest two releases (for which im really grateful btw) Im just wondering if it is possible for a UK account to order direct form the source if i I want to pick up other releases down the line?

Cheers

They ship internationally. I believe the only record they were limited on shipping only within the US was the Maniac remake soundtrack.

@Hardrain: The vast majority of their releases will ship worldwide. You're thinking of the Studio Ghibli release, that was supposedly US only. Although in the end they messed everyone around - after making a big fuss about it, copies turned up everywhere, in UK shops, even on Amazon. But in general, yes you can order directly (but beware of the shipping costs - obviously it works out better if you order 2 different LPs at the same time). Hope that helps :)

I think the Studio Ghibli Kokyo Kyokushu release was US only too.

@Hardrain: worldwide shipping! Some past releases were US exclusives but you can get the vinyl directly from Mondo. Expect 20-25$ for shipping...

Cheers for the help guys. Im pretty sure it was the Ghibli release that put this in my head as being a US only company. Thanks for the clarification.
