While I'm certainly enjoying this resurgence in vinyl, some prices I've seen lately are just, well, pretty damn scary. Yes, I know I don't have to open my wallet but I really can't help it sometimes especially when it is something I am interested in. Supply and demand is good but I guess not when the supply is just so damn limited :-(

Guys, I wouldn't worry about this variant too much. I was just at the screening and it was definitely less than half way full. Even if everyone there bought a copy, at 200 copies there should still be more of the variant left over for purchasing online. Just my two cents, at least!

Well, I wouldn't say I'm worried about it as much as mightily frustrated with the execution of the business model whilst simultaneously recognizing its limitations. But enough about that shit. How was the film? How did it look and sound? I wish Drafthouse woukd bring it to BD.

Dudes
don't worry about the variant , bag the standard edition and be happy with the music. I look at this titles like Slumber or Forbidden. Fairly small and niche. Shouldn't sell out in seconds.

Is this going into their store then?

It was a typical Mondo event...nerds and hipsters. The director did not look happy at all to sit and sign everything. He mumbled enjoy the show to me as he signed my record and tape, and it was with such nothingness in his voice... I really felt bad for him.

Well that's too bad, but how was the flick? Did it look good?

I could only stay for a short while because of flying out early this morning, but yes...it was very cool to see it in 35mm.

Bummer, but I'm glad you got to go for a bit anyhow.

Uhm...of course too bad, I mean he did good stuff in the past but he isn't such a star... being annoyed at a screening event of his movie?!? I don't understand, if someone don't like this kind of things should not take part, am I wrong? When I met George Romero, he was so kind and available with all the people present at that event...I mean ROMERO!

so has anyone heard anything about when mondo's next releases are going on sale to the general public? maybe i should just check amazon for preorders so i don't have to deal with the madness. :)

@maxvelvet - I won't say he was angry to have to be there overall...I mean he has to be pleased to see his film have a strong following and be shown in all it's glory in downtown Austin. Maybe he was just not happy having to do the signings...I don't know. He wasn't friendly nor did he want to talk at all. That's the only time I interacted with him tho, at the signing.

Love the art not the artist. Makes things so much easier.

@Layne-No word that I'm aware of when Blue Sunshine, or anything else for that matter, goes on sale.

Maybe he's just an anti - social weirdo like lots of artists :) but you're right, too bad.

Was it me, or does anyone remember a while back Mondo hinting at Jurassic Park?

@mateo - all of the secrecy surrounding mondo's releases makes it difficult to get really into the label. i mean, i have loved the majority of their releases once i have them in my hands, so i'll keep buying them, but i'm done with trying hard to get the limited variant. i'll just get what i get, you know. also, i've tried to ask questions to clarify certain things about a release and never get a response. not a big deal, i guess, and maybe we're just spoiled with the labels that started this forum being so communicative with us, but you know. i'm sure dude has a ton on his plate, since most of their business revolves around the thousands of posters they have released, so certainly no hard feelings. sometimes, people would just like to know a tad more information than "tomorrow, <this thing> goes on sale!" even though we haven't heard anything about it up until that announcement.

@strangevices - yeah, i remember them posting a video on instagram of them playing a test pressing or something like that.

@layne: nah man, there's no excuse for not being communicative with your customers. It's pretty basic stuff. Also, I know that the guy who runs Mondo has a full time assistant too, so really...

I definitely agree with you that it's frustrating and annoying. But on the other hand, I like the idea of their aesthetic and mystery. It is really impressive that they have been so successful with the way they do things. Thank god the other labels don't do things like that though.

@strangevices @re-animated cat - no kidding. i would hate to have all of these releases be announced the day before they go on sale. it would make it much more difficult to manager money-wise. being one that is trying not to ever use a credit card and all...

@layneharvey - I couldn't agree more. If they didn't have the poster side of things, they would probably have to adjust their business model.

@everybody else - I've also begun (very reluctantly) to give up always chasing the variant I feel represents the film the most with them because it is just cost prohibitive. To that end, it's not always a dissapointment as sometimes the more readily available variant (or just plain black) is what I prefer, but sometimes it blows a bit. Like last night.

I stayed for the movie...here are my thoughts:

1 - Blue Sunshine - this was my first time watching this and my expectations were quite low -- boy was I wrong. I really enjoyed the movie, the characters, plot, music, etc.

2 - the print -- the 35mm print was quite good (IMO). Lieberman introduced it and discussed how the negatives were destroyed and he said the print isn't the best, but I was impressed. After some pretty noisy opening logos for Warner Bros., the print seemed quite fine to me. I have seen far worse 35mm screenings.

3 - Lieberman -- I think he has a tough guy attitude but I didn't get the impression he was annoyed with signing or talking to people. After the movie he was signing more copies and selling bluray copies of Remote Control. Seemed to be happy to be there. Plus, he and Tim League (Alamo) have been friends for a long time.

I had a great time. The lp looks fantastic ... plan to listen to it tonight.

Mondo is just poorly run by a group of Austin hipsters. I've been to their gallery and their events a good number of times and can say that confidently.

For example...just to get your blood pumping...

I swung by about four weeks ago during their posted business hours to pick up posters and my halloween vinyl. Doors are locked, windows blacked out. No one will answer. Keep in mind I paid for all these items months ago. There is no phone number, no way to reach them but by their website.

So I email from my account and ask why they weren't open, and how can I please get what I paid for. I get a reply two days later stating that I must have shown up while they were setting up for a showing, so they just ignore their customers. She said come by after the showing starts. So I went this weekend, and guess what....those records I paid for, yeah they have those away to someone else. So I asked how I could get what I paid for...which seemed to really annoy the girl at the desk. She said I could just have them mailed to me. So now I wasted two trips, they fucked me, and I have to pay their shipping fee to get my records. Seems like a bit of a scam doesn't?? Especially when you take into count they overcharge on their shipping.

I'd say that is a little unfair . I'm friends with Justin and he is a a nice guy and a fan just like any of us .. They are not hipsters and they care about their customers...
You had bad luck for sure but I'm sure they will sort you out.
They are huge I have no idea how they keep on top of things !
