I'm probably alone here, but I actually prefer the original standard sleeves. The over-sized gatefolds are a little too much, IMO. Would be interested to hear the reasons for remastering Zombi 2 though, and the name of the engineer (will it be done at Abbey Road? If so, nice ;) )

@re-animated cat
I agree with you, the oversize covers are just too big. I have always prefered original standard sleeves.

Some people just want records to be as 'deluxe' as possible, it's a bit of a trend at the moment. For me, I prefer more modest releases. But each to their own :)

I'm very happy with my early DW releases, in fact packaging-wise I think they're spot on. Nothing too fancy, but still look cool.

I love the deluxe... And I like how Spencer has tried various formats, looking for perfection.

Which is why we are heading back to them @re-animated cat .....back to where it all began.

My idea is to make the deluxe super special (gatefold , diff cat number , diff back sleeve) and the standard affordable but still fucking cool . Funny how when we started and released Zombi 2 peoples minds were blown that someone was actually doing this on vinyl at all and now if you dont put a chunk of your own flesh in the package people are dissapointed as it isn't special enough!

I wanted to get back to basics and focus a little more on the music BUT at the same time offer a crazy heavy deluxe to folks that wanted it , if that makes sense?

I am trying to balance my yin with my yang ;)

But yes @Rasmus I am always looking for perfection . I believe this balance or regular and deluxe will hit the sweet spot.

Sounds like a deluxe v B2B sub offer which is cool. I noticed LTROI isn't not he list, but get that on deluxe gatefold with new art work by Candice Tripp and id be all over it. Still my favourite poster and record.

Think that sums it up nicely! Funny old business, isn't it :)

Yeah, I reckon you've hit the sweet spot with the current options. It'll be interesting to see how things work out from here. I think the soundtrack craze is gonna implode pretty soon...Maybe then demand will shift back to more specialist, less deluxe releases. Who knows?

Love everything you do Spencer, and I think deluxe editions are cool. But I will say, I wish that deluxe editions didn't include different (presumably better?) liner notes than the regular edition. One reason I buy vinyl (as opposed to iTunes) is for great liner notes, and I'm bummed that I may be missing out on some insider info on the music/compositions just for not paying more for the deluxe edition. Sounds like this is the case with the Godzilla special edition, yeah?

I think we're very lucky these days to have labels releasing some of our favourite soundtracks in deluxe packages. The quality (and expectation) is increasing all the time....and that can only be a good thing. I just hope all my favourite soundtracks will eventually get released.

We are figuring out a digital PDF for non deluxe purchasers

not sure how long it will take

Totally agree, I like to be extra gentle with my vinyl and find myself wrestling them back in, very tight and bizarre seeing as the vinyl is the same universal size yet the sleeves are bigger? and trying to get the extras back in once looked at or after reading is nigh impossible without bending/creasing them.

This is the new golden age for vinyl lovers, Death Waltz, Waxwork, One Way Static, AMS, Priv4te and much more, bring back to us their love for soundtracks and vinyl, each in their way, we have the luxury to criticize this or that work for one or another reason, and because we have the choice sometimes with two different releases from the same motion picture, we, really, are spoiled children, we are the dandy of the soundtrack world and I like it. I know the reissues will be great with the new treatment (high quality gatefold. ..etc)
I will wait patiently for "Manchester Morgue" "Zombi 2" and "Halloween III".

Spencer, how about including a hi-res, 24/96 digital download option in the case of the titles that have been re-mastered? THAT would really make me want to double-dip.

This sounds like a cool solution :)

And so, going by the Obi strip on the back of my deluxe of Godzilla and COTLD that arrived on Saturday...

"ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS - A deluxe gatefold reissue completely remastered at Abbey Road featuring a host of sleeve notes, production stills, and a step by step gallery of the Graham Humphreys iconic artwork from sketch to completion."

Anyone else notice at the time that the artwork for this original DW release was exactly the same as the covers for the Arrow Blu-ray/DVD remastered re-issues of Zombie Flesh Eaters? No bad thing, as the picture really sums up the mood of the movie/soundtrack.

Also promised this year from DW going by the obi strip are THE BEYOND (again the score remastered), FRIZZI 2 FULCI live recording from Union Chapel London last year (presumably a double?), BIG BAD WOLVES and HOUSE OF THE DEVIL...

This seems a second-guessing and revision of existing works where none was needed. I rather enjoy going through the releases and seeing how the style and character of the label developed over time. That being said, knowing myself I'll probably buy a set of sleeves and liner notes.

Thanks for the clarification, Spencer. H3 is my personal favorite so this is most welcome news.

Will this original Zombie Flesh Eaters artwork, that Spencer just bought and tweeted about, be included in the new DW deluxe edition of Zombi 2?

Would make a great poster/ alternative cover for the gatefold re-mastered re-issue for sure.

(Intrigued how much he paid for it!) :)

Not sure that he bought it - my impression was that he might have loaned it to use it in the re-packaging of the LP?

either way...it's a beauty.
