Resubscribed. Spence always delivers. As I've always said, if I don't want something I get I'll resell here or to a friend. Tote bag, whoop whoop!

I agree with aeonblack. I'm happy to pay for such a quality product, I'm convinced Mr Hickman et al are in it for the passion not the money (you'd be hard pressed to get wealthy in such a business - excuse the pun) and boo to the naysayers! ;)

I would assume that everyone that starts a small, independent record label, supplying high margin, high quality pressings is simply doing it because they know that one day, EMI or Columbia is going to turn around and buy them for 200 million dollars. That is when they get rich, Oiche! I have seen it a thousand times before. Just like when that damn Willie Wonka offered me his factory and I turned around and sold it to Slugworth.

;)

Here's to DW and whatever they have in store -- I just hope it's not an entire record of the Dark Star dialogue...I already have one of those!

I picked up my first DW release on holiday in San Francisco last year and totally fell in love with the label ( and spent a small fortune back buying the catalogue ). The label has introduced me to the world of soundtracks and, frankly, the quality of the records and packaging are head and shoulders above just about anything else out there. I'm ridiculously envious of you guys who were onboard for subs 1 & 2.
I'd bend over backwards to get on board for sub 3. £190 you say? Point me in the direction of the right person for me to bite their hand off!

I had a thought about future subscriptions -- would it be possible to have an option where the subscription is mailed as a whole (i.e., all of the albums, tote bag, etc, would be mailed together)? This way, shipping to the US and other countries could be reduced. Buyers would still know that their albums are coming evetually and know that a great portion of the money is going to the label and the product. Also, this could possibly save money and environmental resources in reducing the number of mailers needed. On the flip side, it would mean more work with record-keeping and with keeping an inventory.

Just a thought, trying to help the discussion. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get a sub this time around because of unforeseen bills, but hopefully I will be able to get sub 4.

Your welcome to my subscription lads. Decided Im not bothering. A 25% price rise is just too much. Especially when your paying up front. I understand what you said Spencer, quality of product but the quality of product was good in the first place. I feel you are turning your back on the people who helped you get the label running. After all the initial subscription fees would have helped pay for presses etc. I still think this is the best label Ive seen in years and will continue to buy selected releases but you have simply priced me out of the game. Im sure the subs will fly out to people anyway but its a shame record collectors will miss out. Keep up the good work on the label though as its class.

I will most likely re-sub regardless but will the sub order be fullfilled by Light In The Attic for US residents? This should help with bringing cost down for US subscribers, but not sure how that is baked into the sub cost.

WOW £190

If you collect records you just have to have them, Death Waltz that is.
These are the best records that money can buy for quality, sound, variety and artwork. I would like to have an option to pay in installments but I guess that's not gonna happen.

What Spencer is doing here is commendable and he is getting a lot of flak for it, these releases are exciting and he's doing something I'm sure a lot of us would like to be doing ourselves.

Had sub No.2 which was mostly great, but never got any shirt, badges or stickers though. Did those only go out to U.S. subscribers?

Just bought sub No.3! Ms.45 Please

Spencer if you're still moving to Brighton(hopefully Death Waltz too)If you have any jobs going let me know, will work for stickers ha ha

I am pretty sure the T-shirt came with the first sub, I know I didn't get one in the US with my 2nd sub -- as far as stickers go, I think there have been randomly inserted stickers along the way...

I was wondering today -- is Assault on Precinct 13 going to be pressed at 45? Really short OST....

at 45 you get a superior vinyl cut...better bass better high end. in my world all vinyl would be cut at 45!

Precisely -- while sometimes I feel like 45 doesn't make a huge difference, with soundtracks, it can make a huge difference -- maybe that is just me though ;)

And it is indeed a short soundtrack. The liner notes in the Record Makers version has a statement from Carpenter about the brevity. You can read it at http://www.discogs.com/John-Carpenter-A ... ase/208532

@Spencer -

Just to note, I appreciate the Death Waltz label - I haven't been an avid vinyl record collector in years but you lured me back in with the quality of the product you are producing and the material you are selecting - if it is correct that you are releasing Beyond the Black Rainbow I can't wait for it!

I'd note that you don't owe anyone any obligation to explain your business plan. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication probably well beyond what I (and others) can understand as a consumer to run a label. Keep doing what you are doing because the quality of the product speaks for itself.

Also, folks on the outside don't need to know how the sausage is made.

+1 with Purplemule74!!!

Thank you for your post - You said what I wanted to say and in a much more benevolent way than I was thinking it

Having picked up all the DW releases and seeing the quality progression up to now I have no problem with the price increase

After much deliberation, I'll be resubscribing on Monday. Just hope they don't sell out by then!
