Small story which accompanies one of my favorite Creepshow items:
When I was maybe 15-16, I had a friend who was somehow friends w Tom Savini. One time we went over to his house, and his bedroom was like this insane archive of books, movies, scripts, etc.
I see some a few old encyclopedias of the weird or occult or something (I can’t remember what they were now) which I happened to have at home, found at a yard sale. I have a near complete set. Savini wants to trade, asks me what I’ll take for it.
I see a first draft Creepshow script in a binder and ask him to let me borrow it and photocopy it, which, incredibly, he agrees to.
It had some of his effects notes in it (he underlined any passages that would require him to do an effect) and these little numbered tabs that stuck up, denoting any effects he might be responsible for. (I replicated the tabs by just writing at the top of each page in marker.)
Still surprised he let a relative stranger borrow the script, but anyway, I’ve taken it to a few cons and gotten some cool signatures on it (plus I just love reading this first draft - lots of changes were made later, including story order).
